If you can't agree on where to eat, the food court is a good option. That way, no one has to compromise on his or her own choice. I noticed there were plenty of families doing the same with a mix of lunches from different outlets.

I picked a combination of salads from Moderno. I ordered them in a takeaway container so that I could take home the leftovers. I really enjoyed the Pesto pasta salad, which went nicely with the Greek salad with a light dressing. This generous serve was only $7.90.

My daughter picked a Happy meal and my son a plate of Asian food from the Orient. For $7.90 you could pick two hot serves, plus rice or noodles. This was served on a very small plate, but piled high. He really enjoyed it. For under $30, we all had enough for lunch and I am eternally grateful that I didn't have to eat McDonald's.

Even on Boxing Day there are plenty of seats, even the ones near the playground equipment. You can order, eat and be out in 20 minutes, or stay a bit longer while the kids play on the playground equipment.

On the way, we debated the likely age limit for the playground. I had just had time to review the shopping list, return a text and check my email when my indignant daughter returned to the table to say she had been approached by a younger child and asked about her age. The child had then informed her that this was a playground for under-eight year olds. My daughter stormed off to check the rules and confirmed she was too old to play.

On the day, there was an unidentifiable dressed-up character wandering about. I thought he looked a bit like Colonel Sanders but the kids said he was SpongeBob! He was giving out free Pepsi's and lollipops, so there were smiles all round.

The following food outlets are all on the top level of the Greensborough Plaza near Target:
  • Moderno (Italian)
  • Salsa Mexican Grill
  • Fancy Fillings sandwiches
  • Ispa Kebabs
  • Subway
  • Muffin Break
  • Donut King
  • KFC
  • The Orient (Japanese sushi and Chinese)

  • In addition, there are many other cafes within the centre. After some ruthless bargain shopping you're sure to find something you would like to quench your thirst and re-energise you.
