GreenMoney Recycling Rewards

What is GreenMoney? In short, it's a rewards program for recycling.
Sign up for free, recycle at home and receive rewards fortnightly, redeem your points online and save!
Earning GreenMoney reward points is a bit of a team effort, or community effort as the case may be. Reward points are equally distributed to households, based on the average weight of recyclables collected from that community. Wonder what I would do if I saw my neighbour carelessly tossing that cereal box in the main rubbish bin?
Individual homes earn 50 points for every kilogram of recycling in the community. If the average weight of recyclables collected for your community is 5kg a fortnight, that's 250 points you can use the next time you shop, for up to $25 in savings. Points are redeemed online, with vouchers from sponsoring organisations such as Hoyts, Boost Juice Bars, KFC, and Subway, being sent to directly to your email inbox.
Businesses can become reward partners and increase your online presence while supporting your community and the environment!

The pilot program is currently being launched in Docklands and Southbank, running until November, 2014, at which time The City of Melbourne will evaluate sustainability of the project in other municipalities. Prospective members in other suburbs can
sign up here , and will be added to a waiting list. In the meantime, there seems to be a bit of information available on their
website , as well as their
Facebook page .
Do you think that tax dollars should be invested in offering incentives to citizens for recycling? I'd propose that a reward system is more effective than a penalty system (fines for
not recycling), but I wonder how the same dollars could be invested in an educational marketing plan, multi-media advertising, or school curriculum strategies.
