Immerse yourself in a piece of hidden paradise
A visit to Greenhouse the Bathhouse, Day Spa in Burleigh Heads, was a gift from my daughters. It left me feeling like I had died and gone to heaven. I experienced the best massage I have ever had, under the skillful hands of Rhianna who treated me to a Kahuna Massage, which is unlike any other I have enjoyed. Kahuna Massage, which originated on the islands of Hawaii, has a deeply relaxing effect and is quite different from a conventional massage. Its flowing movements felt like a graceful dance over my skin, easing tired and stiff muscles while still managing to be soothing. It was the perfect combination. I'm sure it must be beautiful to watch and, for me, felt like poetry in motion. This massage flowed up and down one entire side of my body at a time – not following the standard: back, then the legs, then front, routine of a standard massage.

"The Kahuna massage is often said to be a holistic natural therapy that is designed to heal the body, mind, and spirit… said to stimulate some of the human body systems such as the lymphatic, circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems… also said to be beneficial for certain emotional problems such as: stress, depression, grief and exhaustion."
My massage was the beginning of a Signature Massage & Soak package. The blissful one-hour full body massage was followed by an hour and a half soak session. My tour of the facilities was welcoming and informative and I was then free to use the: hydrotherapy spas, sauna, steam room, outdoor magnesium plunge pool and a relaxing upper sundeck with loungers and cushions, as I wished. There was water to rehydrate with, herbal tea (including my favourite Rooibos Turmeric Chai) to drink, an outdoor shower, bathrooms and an indoor lounge area to relax in. My favourites had to be the hydrotherapy spa and most definitely the outdoor magnesium pool. Click to read about the benefits of magnesium pools, mentioned in this P3 Sports & Recovery article.
There is a charming archway, leading from reception to the treatment areas, as you walk in. Draped with soft fabric, the delicate drifting in and out motion of the curtains on the breeze sets a relaxed tone and you will feel the calming energy of the place. The reception area also houses a variety of self-care products available for sale.
I met the loveliest people and had to be mindful of the Silent Spaces, reserving the plunge pool and relaxing upper deck for conversation. Several of the other visitors were couples on my visit. I also met some single ladies and girlfriends doing a Lunch & Soak session.
I felt like Claire from a recently watched Modern Families episode. Her family members withheld their bad news, until after her massage, with the window of opportunity at its best for a chilled reaction, after her session. I had left the house beforehand, hoping my youngest had heard one of the three requests to hang washing as I departed, and returned not caring whether we even had any clean clothes to wear or not.
This blissful experience – the Signature Massage & Soak Package – made me feel like a different person. I highly recommend Greenhouse the bathhouse, as a unique wellness experience to indulge yourself, share with a friend or enjoy as a couple.
Greenhouse the Bathhouse is open Wednesday – Sunday, by appointment only.
Note: there is no on-site parking, so arrive in plenty of time to find parking on the road or in nearby Martin Shiels Park carpark. Greenhouse the Bathhouse is located down the end of a driveway, hidden behind Vally Hair Co Saloon and JFK Restaurant – hidden from street view.
