Adelaide Hills region is one of Adelaide's fruit bowls with local produce including apples, pears, cherries, strawberries, vegetables, cheese and wine. Opened last strawberry season was the Green Valley Strawberries Cafe bringing the freshest strawberries to their customers at the farm gate sale. Running for 8 months a year from October to May, this cafe gives another reason to go for a drive to the Hills.
Inside the enormous farm shed are the cafe counter, a glass cabinet of sweets and desserts, a cupboard filled with handmade jam and chutney, a supermarket-sized fridge for Green Valley strawberries, local produce like eggs and seasonal local fruits as well as the sorting and packing equipment that makes you feel being in a farm instantly.
The two sisters behind the cafe are Christie & Steph, who are passionate about simple, delicious homemade food and the finest quality coffee. Expect a strawberry loaded menu. Their fluffy buttermilk pancake or pressed-to-order waffle comes with a selection of toppings: classic strawberry, Nutella, Naughty but Nice (ricotta, berries, honey, toasted coconut & cinnamon sugar) or basic lemon and sugar. A gluten-free option is available. There are even savoury choices with strawberries too. Don't forget their strawberry milkshake, which is made with real strawberries.
Green Valley is a proudly owned family business since 1985. The owners Jim, Lynda and their two daughters (Christie & Steph) welcome you to their farm and hope you will sit back, relax and enjoy their idea of paradise. That's why the seating area is outdoors. The main area is in the veranda. There are high benches and bar stools for those who like the view of strawberry fields.
The lush green strawberry fields makes a big contrast to the surroundings
Green Valley farm gate and cafe hours are Wednesdays to Sundays 8:30am to 4pm. Kitchen close at 3pm. Get there early if you want to try their housemade waffles and pancakes. There is ample parking space right after you enter the cafe. Due to the nature of being an outdoor cafe and in the Hills, the cafe will close early on extremely hot days or even close under catastrophic weather. Check their Facebook page before you make the journey and remember to bring an esky for the take-home strawberries.

Hi Green Valley Strawberries, I have just finished scoffing a punnet of your delicious strawberries here in Canberra! They were the absolute most delicious, zingy, flavoursome strawbs I have ever eaten! Punnet was purchased from a supermarket down the NSW South coast somewhere a few days ago, but still tasted like they'd just been picked! Delicious! I will definitely look you up if I ever get back to the Adelaide Hills. Thank you!
