Located on the well loved King Street in the heart of Newtown, sits a little treasure known as Green Gourmet. It offers a delicious range of vegan cuisine with a Chinese influence, seen in the flavours and dishes offered. All food at the restaurant is 100% vegan with no meat, dairy, egg, onion or garlic with selected dishes also gluten free.
The restaurant was established in 1998 and is still unbelievably popular, becoming a regular meal choice for many vegans in the Sydney area. The food is served in a buffet style, giving you over 30 mouth watering options. Once you have filled your plate, you pay by the weight of your food, so you can eat as much or as little as you like depending on the weight of your wallet.
The meals range from dumplings, crispy Beijing mock 'duck', vegetable curries, salt and pepper 'squid', a very impressive range of soups to choose from, sweet and sour taro fritters, and so much more.
If you can physically eat anymore after your meal, the desserts are delicious and completely guilt free. A well loved local favourite is the tofu ice-cream that is available in all sorts of creative flavours including taro and linseed.
Green Gourmet has a cosy atmosphere, with a laid back dining style making it the perfect location for catching up or celebrating with your nearest and dearest - vegan or not.
It's open Lunch and Dinner every day of the week, with Yum Cha lunch being served on Saturdays and Sundays.
Green Gourmet is one of my favourite places to eat and the perfect way to end a day shopping on King Street, or start an evening visiting the many pubs and bars near by, so make sure this is your dinner choice when you're next in Newtown.
