This is a list of "green" events, including movies and any other events that relate to a green way of life and helping the environment.

[b] 1. MOVIE NIGHT - A FRACTURED STATE[/b]
This movie night is on Wednesday, 21st February at 6:30 pm till 8:00 pm at the Osborne Park Hotel, 216 Main St, Osborne Park.

Join The Wilderness Society for this free film screening, so that you can make a difference!

[i]"A FRACTURED STATE"[/i] tells the story of the battle to protect land, water and health in Western Australia, from the unconventional gas industry and fracking.

After watching this short film, there will be a talk about this industry and its consequences on WA and how we can protect our health, water and land from this "invasive industry".



There will be some snacks provided and meals can be pre-ordered online through Osborne Park Hotel or by calling 9349 3311.

[b]2. "A PLASTIC OCEAN" - ROCKINGHAM WA: SEA SHEPHERD MARINE DEBRIS[/b]
This will be screened on 28th February from 7 pm to 9.30 pm at 2 Val Street, Rockingham.

Sea Shepherd Marine Debris Campaign will be screening this movie, which is an award-winning film about the impact that plastic has/and is having in our oceans. The event is hosted by The Cruising Yacht Club in Rockingham.

This documentary is described by Sir David Attenborough as "one of the most important films of our time".

Admission is by gold coin donation and all proceeds go to Sea Shepherd. You can book your seat at Eventbrite site.

[b]3. WA CLEARING THE AIR 2018 CONFERENCE[/b]
This conference will be held on 18th February from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm at Queens Building – Wesley Quarter, Level 1, 97 William St, Perth.

Some of the speakers will engage in interactive workshop sessions, develop your expertise as a climate advocate, talk about the electric vehicle - view a Tesla car and speak with the owners.

The speakers include:
  • James Lush – Founder/Director at Lush Media and ABC Radio Presenter, Messaging to the Mainstream
  • Dennys Angove – Retired CSIRO Atmospheric Chemist, CCL volunteer On Being an Atmospheric Scientist and a Climate Advocate
  • Leo Kerr – Founder of My Electric Car - The Electric Vehicle Revolution
  • Richard Chapman and Emma Hadley – Tesla S Car Owners

  • Fees for this conference are $30 (or $20 for students) and this includes: Sunday lunch, morning and afternoon tea, optional Sunday dinner at your own cost at a local restaurant, and you can book for this here .

    [b]4. ECO-RETROFIT HOME AND GARDENS WORKSHOP[/b]
    This workshop will be held on 28th February from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the South Perth Community Centre, South Terrace & Sandgate Street, South Perth.

    You will learn how to cut your power bills and make your home comfortable all year round as "smart homes are naturally cool in summer and warm in winter". You will also hear about creating a lovely garden to reduce the impacts of our tough climate on your home. You will hear about the latest ideas, techniques, and gadgets to make your home energy efficient and sustainable.



    This has a team of leading experts giving the talks and is ideal for those wanting to improve their living environment and save money.

    [b]5. SUSTAINABLE HOUSE DESIGN[/b]
    This is a free event and will be on at the following places:

  • Ellenbrook
  • 17th February from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Ellenbrook Community Library, 90 Main St, Ellenbrook

  • Baskerville
  • 17th February from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Baskerville Hall, 129 Memorial Ave, Baskerville

  • Guildford
  • 24th February from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Guildford Library, 97 James St, Guildford

    If you are a builder, are renovating or just want to learn about eco-effective ideas, then this seminar is for you.



    It is an introduction to the key principles of eco-effective home design and covers topics including "understanding the climate, choosing building materials, selecting windows, shading and ventilation design strategies, as well as an introduction to renewable energy and water efficient services and systems".

    This is a FREE event and bookings are essential and you can make your booking at this site.

    [b]6. CUTTING KITCHEN WASTE[/b]
    This will be on 28th February from 6.00 pm to 7.00 pm at Darius Wells Library and Resource Centre, Chisham Ave & Robbos Place, Kwinana.

    This will help you reduce your food waste and explain how it is possible to do this.



    Australians throw out about four million tonnes of food every year! By changing a few things, you can help reduce this figure.

    This is a free event and you need to register.

    [b]7. CHOOKS IN THE CITY[/b]
    This will be on 24th February from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Coolbellup Public Library, 90 Cordelia Ave, Coolbellup.

    It is a workshop for beginners and experienced chicken owners to help understand how to care for chickens and will cover many aspects of this.

    It is a free event, and you must book via this site.

    [b]8. LEARN HOW TO KEEP WORM FARMS[/b]
    This will be on 24th February from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Cottesloe Council Lesser Hall, 109 Broome St, Cottesloe.

    Worm farming is a great way to get your own fertiliser and this workshop will explain how to turn your kitchen scraps into worm castings.



    This is a free workshop, where morning tea will be provided, and you need to register at the Eventbrite site.

    [b]9. POINT PERON BEACH SWEEP[/b]
    This will be on 25th February from 8:00 am to 10:00 am at Point Peron, Rockingham.

    It is an outing by the WA Naturalists Kwinana Rockingham Mandurah Branch and the meeting point is in the parking area on the right-hand side. Bring along your camera, drinks, binoculars, and snacks et cetera. You can contact Colin on 0408 618 975 for further details.

    [b]10. BIRDLIFE WESTERN AUSTRALIA WALKS AND EXCURSIONS[/b]
    This Bird Walk will be held on 18th February from 7:30 am to 11:00 am at Kogolup Lake, Beeliar.

    You will meet at 7:30 am in the car park on Branch Circus, and there should be a good variety of bush birds and waterbirds to see in this area.

    You will need to bring your scopes and rubber boots as it will be muddy. This event is for members and the general public and leading the walk will be Robyn Pickering.
