American Idiot is the 2004 album from Green Day. It was developed into a musical by Green Day's lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong, and Michael Mayer. Melbourne is currently staging the Shake and Stir Theatre Co. production of American Idiot at its Comedy Theatre until 11 June, 2018.
Its tells the story of three mates, Johnny, Will and Tunny. Johnny and Tunny leave their suburban lifestyle and parental restrictions, while Will stays home to work out his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend, Heather. Johnny and Tunny look for meaning in life and excitement of the city. Tunny gives up, joins the military, and gets shipped off to war while Johnny turns to drugs and finds a part of himself that he grows to dislike, has a relationship and experiences lost love.

Ben Bennett and Phoebe Panaretos are reprising their roles of Johnny and Whatsername. Other cast members include Connor Crawford, Kaylah Attard, Alex Jeans, Ashleigh Taylor and the ensemble includes Erin Clare, Nicholas Kyriacou, Kyla Bartholemeusz, Christopher Scalzo, Vidya Makan, Maxwell Simon, Phoenix Mendoza and Kuki Tipoki.
