Get the green light at the Green Beacon Brewing Co
Finding the perfect watering hole is no easy task. The perfect formula is a complex mix of location, atmosphere and variety. Luckily, The Green Beacon Brewery in Teneriffe delivers on all fronts. A laid back, hip (but not too hip) boutique brewery; it's a green light for the discerning Brisbane beer drinker.
The brainchild of husband and wife team Adrian and Abigail Slaughter and friend Marc Chrismas, the Green Beacon's aimed at those who want to "Drink widely and drink well; drink less but drink better". All beer's brewed on the premises and is available to drink then and there or in a take home 'growler' or 'squealer'. Confused? They're resealable containers for fresh draught beer. For those who're really curious, check out their website for a full explanation.
There's a range of beers available from pale ale to wheat beer to something a little heavier (Penny Porter's her name). There's info available about each one, with an ingredients list that just walked out of an orchard or paddock and into a glass. Try not to be tempted by 'a spice defined palate with floral characters' or 'aromas of fresh lychee, candied orange and dried mango' (and it's true, you really can taste the lychee).
Non-beer drinkers needn't despair as there's also a range of wines and a Green Beacon brewed cider available. The wine's all from the Granite Belt region; with sparkling, whites and reds available. The cider's an apple variety; perfectly crisp and not too sweet or too sour; perfect for those hot summer nights. And hot it was, as we visited on that incredibly sweltering 38 degree day. Another tick in the box is the high ceilinged concreted space and spread out seating, perfect for the short or long term visitor.
And if you're feeling a little peckish on your visit, you can also sample a selection of seafood, cheese and breads (there are some tasty looking share platters available), toasted sandwiches and other delectable bar snacks. Like any good seasonal provider, the menu changes daily, according to what's available.
As with any drinking establishment, your visit's made or broken by the quality of the bar staff. There are no worries here as the staff are friendly, approachable and highly knowledgeable about everything the Green Beacon's got to offer. Special thanks go out to the brave bartender who when asked to: "Imagine you're a girl who wants to dance" was able to recommend the perfect venue for us to kick on at later in the night. You were right, Lefties is where it's at.
So if you're looking for a new local, or just a place to sit back, relax and enjoy a glass of hops, the Green Beacon's well worth checking out. It's open Wednesday to Sunday (Wed & Thurs midday 'til late & Fri to Sun 11am 'til late). They're closed Mondays and Tuesdays for brewing.
