Having a culinary tradition of over 4,000 years, Greek cuisine is an important part of the history and culture of Greece; with flavours changing with both season and geography, this is a cuisine you will never get sick of. Although Brisbane has no shortage of Greek restaurants, most people are only familiar with Greek restaurants in popular dining hubs such as West End. The Greek Mediterranean Restaurant in Springfield is an authentic Greek restaurant, hidden in the backstreets on the south-west side of Brisbane's CBD.
Open 6 days a week serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner (exception of Sunday, when they close at 2pm), The Greek is a must visit at any time of the day. Being a Greek restaurant, they have the usual breakfast options with an added twist, with menu items named, for example, 'Big Greek', 'Mykonos', and 'Corfu Yiros'. Great bargains can be had at The Greek, with breakfast for just $10 from Tuesday to Sunday. However, the best thing about having breakfast at The Greek is that breakfast is served until 4pm! They also have a loyalty rewards system, with a free coffee (Merlo) for every 6 purchased.
Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, 6 days a week.
From 11am till 4pm, the lunch menu is served concurrently with the breakfast menu. This gives you double the options, even though the breakfast and lunch menus by themselves is already extensive. The lunch menu is conveniently split into sections, making it easier to digest - 'sides', 'mezedes to share', 'light lunch', and, for the extra hungry, 'meals'.
Finally, the dinner menu is served from 5pm till closing time. Similar to the lunch menu, the dinner menu is again conveniently split into sections - seeing how extensive their dinner menu is, these subsections were much appreciated! In addition to the dinner menu, there is also a new seafood menu, comprising of a wide variety of seafood dishes, including set menus and share platters. With their new seafood menu, now's a good time as ever to pay The Greek a visit!
Between two people (Eddy not included), my friend and I shared one 'main' dish and two 'mezedes to share' dishes. We opted for 'The Greek Plate' (chicken, pork, lamb souviaki skewers, half char grilled quail, sheftalia, louganiko, pita bread and a choice of dip served with Greek salad), 'Grilled Baby Octopus' (Greek marinated grilled baby octopus), and 'Trio of Greek Sausages' (louganiko, bastourma, sheftalia). Our food came out frighteningly fast - I felt like I had only just ordered, yet here was the food, freshly cooked to order by The Greek's talented owner/chef, Roy.
The Greek has a wide range of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, to choose from. For those who like having a sneaky beer (or two) after work, The Greek is open till 10:30pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights! With a side selection from bottled beer and cider, to spirits, and to wine, there's bound something that suits all. For the non-drinkers, or the designated drivers, there are heaps of standard bottled drinks, in addition to milkshakes, frappes, and smoothies. For the dogs, fresh water is provided in a little container - thank you!
In one word: impeccable. Roy and his staff were nothing but friendly, with all requests that we made met with a smile on their face. Roy himself, despite being busy as the sole chef in the kitchen, would periodically come out to check on us, to see if we were enjoying our meal or if we needed anything. Eddy too was showered with lots of attention and affection! Thank you for having us, we had such an enjoyable night, with great food on top of it.
There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating at The Greek, with outdoor seating being, of course, dog friendly. The outdoor seating was perfect, with a strip of bush that Eddy enjoyed sniffing and exploring, while we ate. Speaking of dog friendly, The Greek is also child friendly, with baby highchairs available for patrons. The seating has a blue and white colour theme, reminiscent of the Flag of Greece, in addition to Santorini. With beautiful photographs of Greece hung up on the walls, it almost feels as though you've travelled over 15181km without even knowing it!
Beautiful photos, with the blue and white in the photos complemented with the choice of colour in chairs and tables.
There are many items available for takeaway, including coffee, Greek salad, Greek cakes, and a range of hot foods. In addition to takeaway, home delivery is also available, with free delivery on orders over $20.
