(Greek Kitchen) is a cosy restaurant located on Semaphore Road, the heart of the beautiful beachside suburb of Semaphore.

Established in 2012 by owner and chef Yani Privopoulos, the cuisine features all the traditional flavours you would expect served with a modern flair. The dishes are all traditional recipes from his family back home in Greece.

Inside the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with old-fashioned leather upholstered chairs, wooden floorboards and open fireplaces.

We enjoyed their 7 course mezze with drinks as part of a great value online deal and were excited to share the experience with family members.

Our mouths were watering at the first meal alone - a generous serving of Saganaki fried haloumi cheese. The familiar squeaky texture offset with a splash of lemon set our tastebuds alight!

Two plates of dips, pita and olives in oil were brought out next, consisting of our all time favourite Taramasalada as well as Tzatziki, and Skordalia. The pita was served hot and had the perfect crunchy yet soft consistency, and they were quickly devoured.

The Dolmades made up the third dish. These were not a personal favourite but we were assured they were very good. Similar to vegemite these may be a little bit of an acquired taste!

Spanakopita were more to our linking and they were great. We were glad however, that our waiter warned us that they were literally piping hot - despite our enthusiasm we all managed to give them time to cool and avoid some serious burns! They were served alongside Keftethes, another favourite of ours for the evening. Dipped in tzatziki they were delicious and reminded us a little bit of yiros without the bread.

The Salt & Pepper Calamari arrived in a hot terracotta bowl; tender and perfectly seasoned. The ratio of batter to squid was well balanced and stayed crispy until the bowl was empty which, given how delicious it was - was not long!

By the time we reached the final course of chicken Souvlaki we were struggling for room to fit them in! But once they were on the table we could not resist. Served with a side of pilaf rice, it was a simple, rustic yet delicious last course that we thoroughly enjoyed. In fact, they were so good, we completely forgot to take a photo!

Our waiter went above and beyond after they found out that we were celebrating a birthday. He disappeared with a grin and reappeared with a special complimentary Cream Kataifi slice for dessert complete with a birthday candle. It was a lovely gesture and it made our entire table smile.
