What's buzzin', cuzzin'? Well Rockabilly and hot rod fans, if you want to make the scene, advance discount tickets are now available for GreazeFest 2016, returning to Melbourne this August and you'd better get in fast!
Now in its 17th year, GreazeFest is the ultimate celebration of cool cars, rockabilly bands, DJ's, fashion parades, pin-ups, vintage bikes, lowrider cycles, kustom art shows, workshops, pinstripers, tattoos, markets and heap mores. With only two events held in Australia annually, the Melbourne leg of this Queensland-Victorian festival is the hippest place to be this winter.
Special guest appearances will fire up your engines and this year's line-up is totally unreal. Von Hot Rod Pinstripe, the world renowned pinstriper from the US, will be hosting some pretty amazing pinstriping workshops. Meet the gorgeous Sabina Kelley, international pin-up model and icon, and Welsh rockabilly hero John Lewis will be headlining a huge line-up of musical appearances alongside The Rhythm Shakers, also direct from the great US of A.
The opening night party is being held on Friday 12th August at The LuWOW Tiki Bar, 62 Johnston Street, Fitzroy. Advance tickets are $20 or $25 at the door and the line includes The Detonators, TJ & The Twinspinners, The Strays, The Flyin' Saucers and DJ's. Pre-purchase tickets through the Greazefest website.
Other musical acts featuring across the weekend at Sandown Racecourse include Ruby Dee & the Snakehandlers, Doubleblack, Three Kings, Jon Flynn's Knights of Sin, Twang, The Flattrakkers, Miss Teresa & her Rhythmaires, Pat Capocci, Cold Heart, Stripped Black, The Hi-Boys, Scotty Baker, Hanks Jalopy Demons, The Cruisin' Deuces, The Sugar Shakers, Longhorns, Paulie Bignell & the Thornbury Two, The Ten Fours, Itchy Fingers, The Ert Trio, Cherry Divine, The Koffin Rockers, Little Billy, Atomic Hi-Tones, DJ Leapin' Lawrie, DJ Jimmy D, DJ's Limpin' Jimmy & The Swingin' Kitten and DJ Slim Rhythm.
The program of events is already featured on the GreazeFest website and it's totally fresh. From live musical entertainment to Hot Rod Show - enter your vehicle to be in the running to win the GreazeFest trophy. Drivers must display their vehicle at least one of the two days, and vehicles can be left overnight. Preferred vehicles include American pre-1970, Australian pre-1970, Hot Rods, Rat Rods, Sleds, Muscle Cars & Customs, vintage motorbikes and Bobbers and lowrider cycles. Trophy award winning categories include Kustom, Queen, Rod, Rat, Classic, Kroozer, Aussie, Ride, Lowrider and Artist in addition to special guest presentations. Prizes will be presented on the Indoor Stage at 4.30pm on Sunday 14th August.
The GreazeFest Art Shows are one of the most popular exhibits at the festival. All entries are welcome, but interest must be registered in advance through the GreazeFest website. Artwork is displayed across the weekend and artists are welcome to offer their pieces for sale throughout the event. Categories include Pinstripe art, Tiki Carving, Airbrush art, Ink Drawings, Pinup art, Auto art, Tattoo art and Photography.
Now for the living dolls, strut your stuff down the catwalk as part of the Pinups on Parade and showcase your personal, vintage or retro style. There's no restriction on wardrobe or categories, no sashes or tiaras. You can wear winter, she-devil, angel or swimwear. This is not a beauty pageant, simply for kicks. Show it off for the crowd. If you'd like a permanent keepsake to commemorate GreazeFest 2016, book an appointment in Mimsy's Trailer Trash Tattoo parlour. Mimsy's trailer is an iconic, well-established landmark at GreazeFest, with her flair for kustom culture themed tattoos. The GreazeFest adventure does not stop there. There's already so much to see and do, but wait there's more. Cruise along the market stalls, drop into the barber or hairdresser for a rockin' 50's style hair-do, watch professional tiki carver, Watango Tiki chisel out a striking tiki carving, then kick back in the bar for a bit or enjoy a coffee and something to eat. There'll be a huge range of international cuisine on offer from the onsite food trucks. Afterwards, pull out your dancing shoes and polish the floor to some great live music until your legs fall off!
GreazeFest Melbourne is being held at the Sandown Racecourse, 591 Princes Highway, Springvale across the weekend of Saturday 13th August from 10am to 10pm, and Sunday 14th August from 10am to 6pm. Sandown is 25km from Melbourne CBD and has onsite parking. If you're using public transport, take the train to the Sandown Park Railway Station (Springvale) Lightwood Road, Springvale.
Advance tickets are $20 each for the Day session only, or $35 for Day and Night. Hot Rod Drivers Advance tickets $15 for Day session only, or $29 for Day and Night.
Teen Advance tickets Day or Night $4, and under 13 years are free.
