The highlight of this festival as before is the Big Day In on Sunday 27 September. Big and little kids are bound to enjoy the pyjama theme party, dancing and engaging with the presenters. Be sure to register. Bookings are required to receive the link to this virtual event. All you then need to do is sit back in your PJs and be entertained from 11am to 1.15pm by the Mexican Music Man, a PJ Disco party, the Bubble Show and more. You'll find the program on the booking form and the website.
Now that you have the full program for the festival and all the entertainment it contains, you are invited to enter a short Story Writing Competitions open to local (City of Dandenong) primary school students as part of the festival. One amazing story will be chosen for its originality, style and storyline. The winner will be announced during Children's Week and brought to life as a short-animated feature. Another competition you can enter is the Storytime Questcomp. As per competition above, it's only open to local primary school students who live or study in Greater Dandenong. You'll find details via the link given in this paragraph. All you need to do is record yourself reading your favourite story for 5 minutes or less and submit your short video and entry form HERE. Entries close 4 October. Best entries will be shared during Children's Week (24 Oct-1 Nov).
During the festival, on top of all the fun workshops and activities, there's also an exciting range of pre-filmed workshops and activities on the Children's Festival's very own Kids TV Channel. Each event will be launched live on socials. You can download, watch, and do the activities in your own time for the duration of the festival.
Another little side activity you might enjoy is the Biodiversity Blitz listed on the competitions page. All you need to do is get outdoors and record indigenous plants and animals with your mobile phone. The competition is run between the City of Greater Dandenong and the City of Casey, on who can record the most species. There'll be individual prizes as well as school categories. register here. No prior knowledge is needed for this competition that runs from 1 Sep to 16 Oct with winners announced Fri 23 Oct 2020. What a great way to get involved in local conservation and learn about local plants and animals.
