The Great Train Race is one of the very popular events on the Dandenong Ranges calendar and it is also one of the longest running fun runs put on throughout Australia.
The Great Train Race is not just a regular running race. It is a race that will challenges participants to race against the historic Puffing Billy train. This will occur along a 13.5km path through the beautiful landscape of the Dandenong Ranges!
When racing, entrants will find it is a hilly route which takes them over roads, dirt tracks and trails. The start of this exciting challenge will be from the Belgrave train station and then on through to the lovely Emerald lake.
Each year, the number of competitors is increasing and this is due to the event's always increasing popularity. Last year, they had as many as 3,000 runners.
The race will be held on Sunday 5th May 2019 with the start being at 9.30 am and the finish at 11.30 am. Runners will have a maximum of 120 minutes or 2 hours to complete the race. You must be aged 13 years or over to enter into this race. To register for the race, click on this link.

ABOUT THE PUFFING BILLY RAILWAY
This train started running in the year 1900 and Puffing Billy is a genuine relic of when life was slower. It is a historic steam train that still runs regularly in the mountain district it was built to run in.
