Melbourne has a bagful of events and activities on offer to help you get the most out of this festive season. The following list is a non-exhaustive collection of suggestions to maximise the joy of this year's holiday festivities. Enjoy!
From 1 December 2012, Federation Square has draped itself in the festive colours of Christmas. For almost one whole month, Federation Square will recreate the Amazon with 150 plastic Christmas trees having been installed at the Square by local urban artists known as The Projects.
Further, there will be music nights on the 5th, 7th, 13th, 19th and 21st of December 2012 where you will be served a fantabulous music extravaganza by talented artists from all over Melbourne. On 21 December 2012, the Main Square will be taken over by Community groups based at the ends of Melbourne's 15 railway lines. Finally, on the auspicious day of Christmas if you find yourself with no plans for Christmas then head to Federation Square to share the Christmas festivities with fellow exiles or lonely birds. And all these are absolutely free to enjoy. Check out this site to find the complete itinerary for the Christmas programme.
Santa is finally in town. Spend this festive season by paying a visit to Santa all over Melbourne. Indubitably, your first stop would be the Myer Christmas window where you can catch a glimpse of Santa and his entourage. The 2012 Myer Christmas Window theme is based on the story of Russell the Sheep who rescued Christmas after Santa and his reindeer plummeted to earth.
On 7 December 2012, Warrawee Park of Oakleigh will come alive with free and joyous celebration of Christmas, complete with Santa himself. Santa's Magical Kingdom located at Yarra Boulevard in Burnley is another prime location to witness Santa. There are many other places where you can savour the pleasure of seeing Santa including the streets of Melbourne. Throughout December, Santas in all shapes and sizes will be regaling Melburnians on the streets of Melbourne with their merry yells of Ho Ho Ho. Read more about places to visit Santa here.
