Brisbane enjoys long summers where spring and autumn also feel like summer. There are lots of ways to cool off over summer, but one of the best is to go for a swim. Here is a list of the best swimming pools in Brisbane.
Featuring amazing modernist architecture that was very much part of Queensland's forward looking mindset of the period. It is also the place the trendy people go to swim and sunbath.

The 50 metre outdoor heated pool is perfect for lap swimmers and there is a wading pool for little ones. However this is the place to go to cool if you are looking hot (or at least trendy). It also has a diving pool, one of the few places to dive in Brisbane.
The pool opens from 5 am on weekdays, and closes at 8 pm Monday to Thursday and at 6 pm on Fridays. On the weekends it is open 7 am to 6 pm.
QUT's indoor swimming pools
Brisbane has few indoor swimming pools, which can be a problem during winter and during bad weather (you don't want to be swimming during thunderstorms). Two of the best indoor swimming pools are at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). There is one 50 metre pool at Garden Point in the city and another 25 metre pool at Kelvin Grove.

Both are open to the public and are great places to swim if you want to avoid the sun, bad weather or just like an indoor swimming pool. They are best suited for lap swimming rather than family fun.
The pools also have gyms that you can use. These facilities along with the pools are best used with a HealthStream membership.
The 50 metre Gardens Point pool opens from 5:30 am - 8 pm Monday to Thursday, 5:30 am - 7 pm on Fridays, 8 am - 5 pm on Saturdays and 9 am to 3 pm on Sundays.
The 20 metre Kelvin Grove pool opens 6 am - 9 pm Monday to Thursday, 6 am - 7 pm on Fridays and 9 am - 5 pm on weekends.
Newmarket Olympic Pool
One of Brisbane's newest pools, Newmarket includes an Olympic pool, water slide and aquatic playground. Set in lovely grounds, this place provides a great location for more than just a splash in the pool.

With a 50 metre outdoor pool, covered wading pool for young kids and a leisure pool with water slides for everyone in between, this is a fantastic aquatic centre.
Set in lovely park area, there are picnic tables, barbecues and a children's playground. There is also a basic kiosk with hot food. All this combined makes the Newmarket Pool a great place to take the family.

On weekdays the pool opens at 5:30 am, and closes at 7 pm Monday to Thursday and at 6 pm on Fridays. Saturday and Sunday it opens from 8 am to 6 pm.
Manly Heated Swimming Pool
Manly has a great little pool right near the seaside. This pool is only 25 metres and is located on a fairly small area. However despite the small size this swimming pool really delivers and is a popular location for local families.
First of all, being near the sea, the area is automatically cooler, making this is nice place to relax. The pool is run with a focus on families (sorry lap swimmers, though real lap swimmers turn up early in the morning anyway before parents with families even think about getting out of bed). There is a water slide and during school holidays they have an inflatable play area in the pool.
During weekdays the pool opens at 5:30 am (as I said, for the dedicated lap swimmers) and closes at 7 pm from Monday to Thursday and closes early on Friday at 6 pm. Saturdays the pools opens at 6 am and closes at 4 pm. On Sundays and public holidays it s open from 8 am to 4 pm.
Yeronga Park Pool
One of the nicest things about The Yeronga Park pool is that it is set in some lovely parkland with a coffee shop and free electric barbecues. This is a great pool to go for more than dip.
The centre has 50 and 25 metre outdoor pools and a play pool for kids. The two pools means that even during school holidays there is still going to be enough lanes for lap swimming while also having lots of space for fun. Often though the 50 metre pool gets quickly tied up with various swim programs, classes and other reserved activities. But they always leave some lanes open for lap swimmers.
While not as green as some other pools, there are plenty of covered areas for parents to sit and relax out of the heat while their kids have fun in the pool. Remember on school holidays, arrive early if you want to swim laps.
The opening hours for this pool are great, going from 5:30 am in the morning to 8 pm at night on weekdays, though like other pools, it closes early on Friday nights at 6 pm. On weekends it opens from 8 am to 6 pm. T
Sandgate is a great beachside location and worth visiting. Unfortunately the beaches are not suitable for swimming. However there is a great beach side pool.
Located in Arthur Davis Park, The Sandgate Aquatic Centre is set in lovely parkland with places to have a picnic on the grass and places to have a barbecue just outside the pool area. This aquatic centre includes a 50 metre swimming pool and kids play pools.
The pool operates from 5:30 am to 7 pm on weekdays, from 6 am to 6 pm on Saturdays and 8 am to 6 pm Sunday. As the pool is not heated it closes over winter, but is a perfect summer swimming pool.
Chermside Aquatic Centre
As far as I know, Chermside's pool is the only unheated pool in Brisbane that stays open all year round. Certainly it attracts quite a few dedicated lap swimmers early in the morning (the pool opens at 5 am and can be crowded by 6 am). If the main 25 metre pool is crowded in the morning they also open the back pool for people who want to have a more relaxed swim.
During the day it is quieter but still attracts a lot of people coming to swim. It also has a wonderful wading pool and play area for the little ones and during the summer holidays the water park options from 10 am. As water parks go, this is the best one in Brisbane that is attached to a pool.
Overall this pool is a great asset in Chermside. There is usually plenty of parking out the front, though during school holidays it can be hard to find any parking after 10 am. Because people use Chermside as a transport hub and park their cars in the side-street on weekdays, it is impossible to find any street parking near the pool. You can however park at the nearby Westfield for 3 hours (or longer is you pay or buy enough things from the shops). So in summary, this is the pool to go to swim laps and to take the kids to have fun during the school holidays.
Definitely the best place in area to cool off over summer. On weekdays the pool operates from 5 am to 7 pm and on weekends 7 am to 4 pm. Times vary during winter. The water park is open from 10 am on weekends and school holidays over summer.
