Memphis in Tennessee is no doubt the blues capital of the world and it's also renowned for its southern style smoky barbeque ribs, but I think Australia can also come up with the goods in those departments as well. As a Sydneysider for almost a decade, I have always been fascinated by the beauty of the NSW south coast – pristine white sand beaches, great seafood, and lush greens of the national parks. And now that winter is coming to an end, I cannot wait to head down to the coast and be part of Australia's biggest blues festival, which is happening right there in Narooma over the Labour Day weekend in October.
The Great Southern Blues Festival is making a homecoming return to Narooma this year after a number of successful runs in Batemans Bay, which is why this festival will host some worldclass performers from USA and Canada, plus our very own local acts for Australian blues lovers. There are artists who are yet to confirm their participation, so you better check the
website for updates.
The festival will be staged at Smyth Oval, which is within walking distance from most of the accommodation. As parking is limited at the festival site, it is advisable to book your accommodation within reach or better yet, there is a
camping site next to the oval with complete facilities which has been quite popular for festival goers for its accessibility.
This festival is a family event, so there are certain policies in place that patrons need to be aware of (e.g smoking, alcohol, pets) - so to avoid any disappointment, please read through the
FAQ section and everyone is expected to comply.
Pre-sale and premium tickets are already sold out, so check out the
website on how to purchase the day passes tickets before they all ran out.
This is one music festival you don't want to miss out - so make sure to head down to the south coast this October long weekend and have a taste of the southern blues or just simply chill out along the magnificent coast.
