Every year the little Irish-then-American tradition of Halloween grows in Australia amid much division through the community as to whether we should embrace or abhor it. I personally love the non-holiday here as it's a great excuse to have a dress-up party which is one of my most favourite past-times.

If you are on the fence about Halloween, perhaps you should head along to some of the best events across the city to get you in the mood. Perhaps you'll be a convert by the end of it!

For the Kids - you know that Halloween is a really great excuse for kids to wheedle as many lollies and chocolate bars out of their parents but maybe taking them along to one of these great events will give them something else to think about for a while.

1. Free Halloween Fun - Logan Central, Oct 30th, 4-8pm FREE
If you need to get your late night shopping done and you're looking for something fun for the kidlets to do, Logan Central Plaza has face-painting, a magic show and photo booth to keep them occupied.

2. Halloween Craft - Annerley Library, Oct 31st 2014, 3:30-4pm FREE
For kids aged 5-8, head to library to make a scary bat to hang in the bedroom or on the front door. Call ahead to book and have a search for your own local library as often these are repeated across the city.

3. Trick or Treat - Fairfield Gardens, Oct 30th, 5.00pm, 5.30pm, 6.00pm & 6.30pm, Meet at Fairfield Library FREE
If you aren't so sure about sending the kids off into the neighbourhood to ask for candy, this is a great alternative and you can ensure they're safe and sound inside a shopping centre. There's also some spooky story sessions after the trick or treating has finished and they are high on sugar.

4. #monsters ">Monsters Ball - State Library Queensland, Southbank, Oct 31st, 7pm $15
This all ages ball is great for the older kids but you can bring along the siblings as they dance the night away. The haunted house will be the main star along with some spooky science challenges and a photo booth to capture the awesome outfits. Under 15's just need to be accompanied by an adult.

For the Big Kids - So Halloween can also be fun for adults and you all know you want to get into that vampire costume or become a member of the Adam's Family for the night. Don't be shy, head to one of these great parties and events and have a scary, fun time!

5. Ben and Jerry's Open Air Cinema - What We Do In The Shadows, South Bank, Oct 31st, 5:00pm $13
Pop down to South Bank for a showing of Jermaine Clement's (of Flight of the Conchords fame) newest movie, a comedy about life and learning to be a vampire. Book into this one soon as tickets sell fast for the Halloween showing.
