There are hefty tomes in the Great and Grand Rumpus room with children's drawings from where it all began. These drawings were taken by the State Library's Creative team and young people and they came up with the Great and Grand Rumpus exhibition, which is exactly as described, great big cardboard creations and a bit of rumpus fun.
So if you are looking for something to do during the holidays, head to the second level of the State Library and visit this little exhibition which is just delightful.
As attractive as the artwork, are the information panels that accompany them, which are part of the larger story in rhyme. They are fun to read aloud and of course, add to our understanding of what we are viewing.
So go along and explore The Great & Grand Rumpus, a sculptural, digital, and immersive installation.
The exhibition's origins lie in the limitless imaginations of children. The fifteen-month long community engagement project invited children from around Brisbane to expand their imaginations, and in doing so, dream up a collection of the most fantastic, astonishing and magical things you could expect to see.
A warning to all who enter these doors:
The brave who pass through Wobbly Tooth's jaws
Respect The Grumpus, yes that's the name
For when you enter this world, you're never the same
Through what is old, find a new state of mind
So open your eyes, who knows what you'll find?
This is a free exhibition. To find out about times and workshops running throughout the holidays go to
