"I love you, but you're all terrible"
Bob Belcher,
Bob's Burgers
Bob's Burgers is an American animated sitcom created by Loren Bouchard that focuses on Bob Belcher (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin), a chef and restaurant owner, who runs a small burger joint called Bob's Burgers with the help of his wife Linda and their children Tina, Louise and Gene.
Bob's Burgers has become one of the best animated comedies on television. Some people even consider the show to be the spiritual successor to
The Simpsons. One of the things that I like about
Bob's Burgers is the end credits sequences. The end credits change every episode just like the Burger of the Day or the shop next door and can include songs, both original and covers, additional characters, and scenes from the episode. The ending credits can be catchy, annoying, hilarious, endearing and just plain fun. Here are 10 of my favourite
Bob's Burgers ending credits:
1. Into the Mild
Episode Details: Season 7, Episode 22
Air Date: 11 June 2017
Written by: Kelvin Yu
Directed by:Tyree Dillihay
End Credits Song: "I Want to Take You Higher" by Sly and the Family Stone
In the episode
"Into the Mild" Bob visits a wilderness equipment store that is having a going out of business sale to try and achieve his dream of becoming an outdoorsman. After he falls asleep inside a tent, he wakes up to find himself locked in the store overnight. Unable to call for help, Bob is left with no other choice but to trust a store clerk named Austin into talking him into climbing a 40-foot wall and then escaping through a skylight. In the ending credit sequence, Bob sings
"I Want to Take You Higher" by Sly and the Family Stone while wearing a climbing harness. A rope descends from above and Bob grabs it. As he is lifted up off the ground and pulled toward the ceiling, he turns to look at the audience and sings
"Boom laka-laka-laka!" What I love about these closing credits is how hilarious H. Jon Benjamin's acting and singing abilities are. I love it when Bob acts like a dorky, fun-loving dad. It's clear in this clip that he clearly had the time of his life escaping from the wilderness equipment store and wants to chase that excitement again.
2. Glued, Where's My Bob?
Episode Details: Season 6, Episode 19
Air Date: 22 May 2016
Written by: Steven Davis & Kelvin Yu
Directed by: Bernard Derriman
End Credits Song: "Bad Stuff Happens in the Bathroom" Bob's Burgers Original Soundtrack
In the episode
"Glued, Where's My Bob?" a practical joke between the Belcher children gets Bob into a sticky situation when a prank from Louise meant for Gene leaves Bob super glued on the toilet on the same day when a journalist is meant to be coming to the restaurant to write a review on it. This is a fun episode that explores the relationship between Bob and Louise through an original song called
"Bad Stuff Happens in the Bathroom". In the ending credits, Bob and Louise reprise the song together in the restaurant, and are later joined by the rest of the family and other characters in the show who join in singing with them outside on the sidewalk. H. Jon Benjamin and Kristen Schaal are great together in the song as Bob and Louise. It's such a sweet song that explores their father-daughter relationship and is a great example of some of the excellent original songs featured on
Bob's Burgers.
3. The Itty Bitty Ditty Committee"
Episode Details: Season 5, Episode 17
Air Date: 26 April 2015
Written by: Holly Schlesinger
Directed by: Bernard Derriman
End Credits Song: "Burgers and Fries" Bob's Burgers Original Soundtrack
Gene Belcher has always had a love of music. In the season five episode
"The Itty Bitty Ditty Committee", Gene gets the idea to dress up in a burger costume and play his keyboard out the front of his father's burger restaurant to drum up some business. He is accompanied by his sisters Tina and Louise who slide straws through the lids of takeaway cups. After being spotted by two of their friends, Regular Sized Rudy and Peter Pescadero, Gene suggests that they form a band called the Itty Bitty Ditty Committee. The kids agree and later recruit another friend of theirs, Darryl, after hearing him sing. When the kids later fail to get along due to creative differences, Gene is kicked out of the group, which robs him of his love of music. Tina and Louise feel bad for Gene so they try to get him to rediscover his love of music. The ending credits of
"The Itty Bitty Ditty Committee" feature the band performing an original Bob's Burger's song called
"Burgers and Fries" while dressed up as glam rockers.
4. The Belchies
Episode Details: Season 2, Episode 1
Air Date: 11 March 2021
Written by: Jon Schroeder
Directed by: Boohwan Lim & Kyounghee Lim
End Credits Song: "Taffy Butt" Bob's Burgers Original Soundtrack featuring Cyndi Lauper to the tune of
"The Goonies R Good Enough"
In the episode
"The Belchies" Teddy tells the Belcher children an urban myth about a hidden treasure inside an abandoned taffy factory that is scheduled to be demolished. Tina, Gene and Louise decide to sneak out of the house and go looking for the treasure. In the ending credits, it is revealed that there really was a treasure inside the factory, which ends up getting washed out to sea and picked apart by seagulls after the demolition. The credits feature the song
"Taffy Butt", sung by Cyndi Lauper in a homage to
"The Goonies R Good Enough" from the 1995 movie
"The Goonies". Jimmy Pesto Junior dances to
"Taffy Butt" in the credits like he is in a 1980s music video. Tina later joins in dancing next to him.
5. The Fresh Princ-pial
Episode Details: Season 9, Episode 15
Air Date: 3 March 2019
Written by: Greg Thompson
Directed by: Tyree Dillihay
End Credits Song: "Pesto In My Pants" Bob's Burgers Original Soundtrack
In the episode
"The Fresh Princ-ipal" Bob becomes convinced that he's forgotten how to flip a burger right. His best customer, Teddy, comes up with a unique suggestion to help distract him from over-thinking things too much. He steals a pair of underwear from Bob's arch-rival, Jimmy Pesto, and encourages Bob to put them on. Bob is sceptical at first and uncertain how this would help him. But after he puts the undies on, he is so amused by the whole situation, he stops fretting about his cooking ability and gets his groove back in the kitchen. In the ending credits, Bob is still wearing Jimmy Pesto's underwear, and is cooking at the grill in the restaurant. He sings an original Bob Burger's song called
"Pesto in my Pants" while dancing in his underwear and an apron. I love Bob's dad bod and how happy he is dancing in his kitchen.
