Local authors in the one room
Can you see my eyes glazing over? My lips quivering? Yes, there is another preloved book sale scheduled in my local area, the Redlands.
Capalaba Library will have hundreds of books from their shelves needing to be rehomed, so make sure that you bring along a fist full of gold coins and a back to transport any purchases home.
You had better make that a fat wallet. You know why? At the same time, Capalaba Library will also be hosting the Local Author Expo. What a wonderful opportunity to meet local authors as they speak about their writing experiences and display their books! I'm already thinking about purchasing a signed book or two as Christmas gifts.
Saturday, September 15th is the big day, between 10am and 1pm. The event is being held at the Capalaba Hall, just behind the library, at 14 Noelene Place, Capalaba. There is no entrance fee nor a requirement to book - pardon the pun.
All proceeds from the sale of ex-library books will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. In remote Indigenous communities, books are all too scarce and literacy levels are so much lower than anywhere else in Australia. The foundation's mission is to make a difference to the lives of Indigenous families by not only gifting thousands of new culturally appropriate books – with a focus on early literacy and first language - but also by running programs to inspire the communities to tell and publish their own stories.
