In 2007 the Town of Bassendean built a skate park in a corner of Steel Blue Oval. Professionally designed by a specialist company with input from the young people who would use it, the park was immediately busy. As well as a popular hangout, the park is the home of the annual Gravit8 Youth Festival . This free festival on the evening of 16 February features competitions for skaters, scooters and BMX bikes, along with plenty of other entertainment.


Gravit8 is proudly sponsored by the Town of Bassendean and Bassendean Youth Services (BYS). The Gravit8 Festival is just one of the many recreational opportunities and support options BYS offers to young people.

The highlight of the festival is Round 1 of the Freestyle Now Western Australian Skatepark Series . Competitors can enter into beginners, intermediates or open class in skateboard, scooter and BMX. This series doesn't decide who is the best rider in the state but gives participants a series to follow to work towards a year-end title. Registration (free) is required prior to the event.


As well as the skate park thrills, Gravit8 will have 3 on 3 basketball, a bucking bull, urban art, the VR experience and more. Hungry skaters can fuel up at the free sausage sizzle. Check the Facebook page for the latest news and get ready for a night of amazing action.
