Located opposite the police station on Hindley Street, Grass Chicken offers a unique take on the chicken burgers and schnitzels that you are familiar with. If you intend to eat there, it is advisable to arrive early as seating is limited and they can fill up quickly. Fortunately, there is the option to order their food to takeaway.

As suggested by the name, most of the food served there features chicken but they also serve a few seafood and vegetarian dishes. All the chicken dishes are noted to be prepared from fresh chicken, as opposed to frozen. They claimed that their Chicken Rice-Burger is the first of its kind to be served in Adelaide, with a crispy piece of chicken and lettuce in between two "buns" made from rice. The chicken was perfectly cooked and it contrasted wonderfully with the rice "buns". It is wise to follow their advice to not unwrap it fully before eating, as it gets a bit messy otherwise.

The Black Pepper Chicken Schnitzel is one of the variations of chicken schnitzel served in this place. For this dish, the unique touch is in the black pepper added to the coating mixture to give it a delightful peppery taste. It is enjoyable to eat but unlike the chicken schnitzels usually sold at pub style restaurants, not all the pieces are necessary boneless so a bit of care is needed when eating it.

The Chicken Wrap is quite similar to ones I have eaten at other places, but with a unique taste offered by the deep-fried chicken filling. One of their vegetarian dishes is BBQ Tofu Skewers, which consists of tender chunks of tofu that have been grilled with a soy sauce based sauce.

You can order the Chicken Rice-Burger, Chicken Wrap and Chicken Schnitzel as part of a combo with chips and chilled tea. If you wish, you can swap out the chips for Sweet Potato Fries or add on fried chicken wings. We found the Sweet Potato Fries to be excellent, with large chunks of soft sweet potatoes that is contrasted perfectly by the crispy coating. The chips are a bit dry, but are still tasty to eat.
