Grapples Thrift Shop is a hidden treasure that you may (though most likely may not) be aware of. The Thrift Shop is situated behind the Chermside/Kedron Community Church on Gympie Road. It opens weekdays and Saturday mornings and has a wonderfully wide variety of pre-loved treasures.
Grapples Thrift Shop plays an important role in supporting my local Uniting Church congregation and provides resources to the Grapples Community Fund which provides much needed assistance to individuals and organisations.
Grapples is operated entirely by an enthusiastic team of volunteers and I can most certainly attest to their friendly and welcoming service, great prices and quality pre-loved items.
I picked up a tailored suit, with two pairs of trousers, for less than $20.00 and there are no signs or wear or damage. Grapples is just a brilliant place to have a sticky beak and find yourself a bargain.
If you are from the area (or even if not) and you would like to get involved with volunteering, this would be an excellent place to start. The ladies are remarkably friendly and you just don't find quality service like this anywhere else.
For inquiries about becoming a volunteer at Grapples, phone Pat on (07) 3350 3183.
Loved this article because it shows the school rooms of Chermside State School where I first started teaching in 1969. I wonder if the suburb has reverted to requiring such an education facility once more. Do pollies consider this when they close down schools or sell off land that was once earmarked for education purposes?
