The annual Granny Smith Festival will return to Ryde this year on Saturday October 19. As one of Sydney's largest street festivals, the event can draw over 90,000 people, and celebrates the legacy of Maria Ann Smith, or 'Granny Smith', who accidentally grew the first Granny Smith apple on her farm in Eastwood 150 years ago.

The festival is a great day out for families and is full of rides, stalls and a whole lot of entertainment across multiple stages. A range of kids activities will be on offer, including circus workshops, an animal farm and a free creative play area at Eastwood Public School.

Ryde Youth Council has also put together a series of events for teens and young adults (using the other half of Eastwood Public School). These will include a pop-up skate park (offering both free time and workshops), as well as performances, karaoke and dance battles at The Core Stage.

Key events to catch include the Grand Parade at 10.00am (head to Rowe Street for the best views) and a Finale Concert featuring the Baker Boys Band (6.00pm) and the Excite Live Band Stunt Show (7.00pm). Fireworks will conclude the festival at 8.00pm.
