National Parks & Wildlife Service is hosting a leisurely walk around Granite Island Recreation Park on Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 21st of July 2024. You'll be guided by local volunteer rangers who will share stories about the Island and the animals who call it home. The island is surrounded by temperate waters filled with marine life such as bottlenose dolphins, fur seals, sea lions, little penguins and leafy sea dragons. The southern right whales also arrive between May and September to raise their calves.
The afternoon walk includes a 2.9-kilometre trail with stairs and moderate inclines. Please note that you'll also need to walk across a causeway to get to the meeting point which is under the large fig tree on the island. Enclosed shoes, a hat and warm clothing are recommended. There is no cost to participate in the walk, however, bookings are essential and can be made online via their
website . Spots are limited, so do be quick to book if you're interested.
