Budget Family Food with a Friendly Atmosphere
Grandma's is an apt name as it feels comfy and welcoming from the beginning. Staff are friendly, service is great, it's a cosy family-style atmosphere where the food is wholesome, tasty and most reasonably priced. They don't use MSG and have a takeaway menu.
Where else can you get a yummy filling breakfast for less than $5 – the drinks match any of the more trendy cafes. Their menu stays below $20 per meal but they have a Thursday $10 curry night and Saturday is Thai or Vietnamese wraps and rolls set at $12. BYO allows you more options and you only have yourself to blame if you bring the wrong wine.
You can read their newspapers or bring the kids as they cater for everyone and are just opposite the beach. Eat inside or out as it feels like tropical holiday. You'll meet tourists, locals and workers, anyone who recognises a good bargain.
They are on Facebook and feature in Trip Advisor and have quite a few reviews. I had heard about it years ago and it sounded too good to be true – my loss for not getting there sooner. The chef is not used to being photographed but as the lynch pin to this café's notoriety it would be remise not to feature him.
