The Museum of Contemporary Arts has been closed since their last exhibition, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer's Recorders . If you missed his work, he creates interactive pieces, which engage the viewer and encourage you to be creative through his work. "Your participation brings these critical and poetic digital artworks to life".

From equipment such as that found at an airport terminal scanning the contents of your pockets, to a camera set up to record your every move and project it for all to see, you are left wondering what you might find around the next corner. We had great fun making crazy shadow puppets with this work below.

Since February, the gallery has been closed for a $53 million redevelopment, increasing the exhibition space for its "transformation into a major cultural centre for contemporary art and creative learning".

I am certainly excited to see the greatly anticipated line up, set for the grand opening on Thursday 29th March 2012. Thus including an inaugural lecture by photographer John Gerrard, free Family Art Extravaganza workshop where you can let your imagination, or that of your child's, run riot, and you will even be able to connect with local Aboriginal nations and the Gadigal people with a free Doonooch dance performance.

Along side the grand opening event, there will be a selection of artist exhibitions running until various dates this year, and also including an entire floor dedicated permanently to presenting work from the MCA Collection. The collection will reflect Australia's diversity and includes my favorite piece by artist Stephen Birch, Untitled 2005, which depicts a life-size 3-dimentional Spider Man rididly glaring at a rather hairy, small-headed man with an unnaturally long neck protruding from the wall.

The opening ceremony will run from Thursday 29th March until Sunday 1st July, with a range of events that are both free and ticketed.
