I'm an Australian living in Thailand. I like to read, write and travel. I'm currently working on my (commercial) travel website skedaddlecarhire.com.au to make more moolah for my trips.

Just recently, I decided that I wanted to take a trip from Grafton, New South Wales to Sydney just to check out new things to explore and discover. I have never truly been to a large city before and spent most of my life in the Grafton area, so the whole idea of making this trip was new to me. I chose to make a long weekend out of it and found that it was one of the best ways to spend my time off of work. At first, I wondered about how far is Grafton from Sydney because I wasn't sure if it was doable.

After I found out that it's about 630 kilometres north of the city, I decided that it was definitely doable and would make for an exciting weekend trip. This is when I began planning out the trip after finding out how far is Grafton from Sydney and knowing that it was something that I could definitely do myself. I took about two days off of work to make a long weekend out of the trip and began planning out what I could do and what types of things were there for me to explore.

The Actual Trip

Considering the distance from Grafton to Sydney, I was a bit confused as to how to get there. I wasn't sure if I wanted to take a train or plane because I'd be missing out on all of the things that I could do while actually driving down to the city. Because of this and the short distance from Grafton to Sydney, I decided to go with a car rental instead. It would enable me to have my own set of wheels to explore the area and come and go as I pleased. I wouldn't be relying on others, planes, trains or taxi cabs to get me around and it was quite liberating to say the least.

Once I had decided that a car rental was the right option for me, I went through the Avis car rental in Grafton that was available. It was incredibly easy to set up the car rental and I had a car in minutes that was insured and ready to go. The whole process of going through Avis for a rented car was one that I would highly recommend and something that I would also do again without a second thought put into it. I was able to locate the Avis depot using this full list of car hire agencies in Grafton.

Things to Do and See

The trip from Grafton to Sydney was a lot of fun thanks to my near new Nissan Pulsar from the Grafton Avis depot and the fact that I could explore where and when I wanted. On my way out of Grafton, I decided to stop by the Woodcraft Exhibition to see the woodwork that was available there. It was fascinating to see all of these things and the different art that was made all using wood. I got a quick bite to eat from there and then continued on my way.

The drive to Sydney was an incredibly relaxing one and it contained a lot of different sights that I would have otherwise missed if I had been taking a plane or train. From the vintage car festival activities to the Irish festival, I had so much fun during my trip to the big city. Just the drive to Sydney was well worth it and something that I will always remember. I took tons of pictures while I was in my rental car and found the whole thing to be quite exciting for me.

Once I arrived in Sydney, this is when I really started having a lot of fun. I made sure to visit the different museums and art galleries that were there, try some of the local cuisine and just walk up and down the main street to see different stores and buy different souvenirs. I visited Bondi Beach (and did this walk), the local zoo and made sure to catch a concert while I was there. I cannot believe how much fun the entire trip was for me and it's definitely something I would do again. One of the best decisions I made while making the trip was to rent my own car because it allowed me to come and go as I pleased.
