The Heritage Fruits Society is a not-for-profit group based in Melbourne. Their aim is to conserve heritage fruit varieties aka heirloom fruits on public and private land. Saturday 10 August from 9am to 12pm marks their annual Scion and Tree Sales Day at CERES Nursery,Cnr Roberts & Stewarts Sts, Brunswick East.
Head on down and learn the age-old technique of grafting from the professionals. This allows you to graft two or more varieties onto one rootstock. The current focus is on apple varieties and they'll be for sale along with plums and limited amounts of other stonefruit, Rootstock not sold separately. Bare root fruit trees (see here for explanation) are also available for sale at the nursery. If it's too wet to be at CERES on the day, contact the Heritage Fruit Society if you want heritage apple scion or grafted trees.
