Do You Believe in Fairy Tales?
Do You Believe in Fairytales?
At some point every fairy-tale must come to an end, but I certainly did not wish this one to. With two young kids, my Prince Charming and I don't wind up at the cinema too often these days. Thankfully we didn't miss this folkloric saga based on the life of the enigma that was Grace Kelly.
Superbly depicted by Nicole Kidman, apart from the strawberry tinge to the blonde, the serene 'ice-queen' likeliness is uncanny. Stunning Monegasque scenery and Palace of Monaco glimpses present a unique insight into one the world's oldest royal dynasties. Royal admirer or not, you will not be disappointed.
The private and tumultuous Grimaldi family have faced their fair share of trials and tribulations throughout history. This epic story retells a period when Monaco's freedom and independence was threatened by French president Charles De Gaulle.
Perhaps fairy-tales aren't always as they seem. The film reveals a substantially unhappy marriage between an often absent and remote Prince Rainier and his stunning, leading Hollywood lady. Far from living the life of a fairy-tale princess, glamorous Grace is portrayed as lonely, despondent and oppressed. The princess struggles to adjust to a court of customs and protocols, a restrictive life that is far-flung from the exciting silver screen energy she knew.
This movie memoir has it all - superb acting, expert cinematography, and a fantasy storyline that would be hard to believe had it not been true. The life of Grace Kelly will forever captivate our imaginations. Grace of Monaco is a flawless fairy-tale. Not everyone likes a happy ending, but you won't be disenchanted by this one.
