The Grace Darling Hotel

I have visited the Grace Darling Hotel twice in the last week now.
Situated on cultured Smith Street, the Grace Darling is just one of many venues to try in Collingwood. The first time was a Saturday night. We arrived by 9.30pm and the hotel was crowded with socialites. Despite being a typical wintry Melbourne evening, people had spilled out onto the lit up street. Upstairs is the band room - the stage and audience section is cosy but the bar staff are welcoming and there are seats and pool tables in the adjacent rooms to relax in between sets. The pub supports small and upcoming bands, so it is worth taking a look at who will be performing in the coming months.
The second time I visited the Darling was a Tuesday night. Much more subdued than Saturdays, the place adopts a twilighted atmosphere. The bar section is peppered with couples and friends having a drink, while the small restaurant is transformed into a white table affair.
A vase with a single red rose and candles create a romantic mood and a glass of wine with the Roquefort fondue entrée begins the evening perfectly. Mains are rustically presented and taste delicious as well (we had a parmagiana, a burger and puttanesca pasta- all with twist on the general pub meal turning it into a dining delight) and though we couldn't fit a dessert in, the menu was tempting. Meal prices are between the $20-30 mark.
Overall the Grace Darling does a fine job at transforming from a bustling pub on the weekends to a quiet dining setting on weekdays.
