Enjoying life in the West
Visit the grand historical house on the Terrace
On Sunday, 30 April 2017, Government House throws open its doors to the public.

Since 1863, this stately and elegant building has served as the official home to each Governor of Western Australia. This heritage-listed residence, designed in the Revival style, is surrounded by a generous 3 hectares of meticulously maintained landscaped gardens. Its gables and capped turrets can be seen from St Georges Terrace. Government House was built largely by convicts and, in the 1890s, a graceful ballroom was added. It remains a significant historical and cultural Western Australian landmark.

Open Day presents a marvellous opportunity for curious members of the public to view inside Government House and to tour the splendid gardens and grounds. You will be able to take a leisurely self-guided tour through rooms of the heritage-listed residence and expansive green gardens. Volunteer guides will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. Linger on the grounds or in the ballroom and enjoy the entertainment.

Pack a picnic to enjoy on the lush lawns or, if you prefer, purchase refreshments on offer. There will also be information booths from various community organisations.

Parking and access

Please note that on-site parking is not available. Pedestrian access is through the pedestrian and main gates on St Georges Terrace or, alternatively, the back gates on Terrace Drive. To get to the Government House Ballroom, walk down the laneway located between Council House and Government House.

If you can't make it on the day, the grounds of Government House are open every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 12.00 noon and 2.00 pm.

If you have always wondered about the building with turrets right in the middle of Perth, here is your chance to check it out.
