"His Excellency the Governor and Mrs Scarce invite you to visit the oldest continually occupied Vice-Regal residence in Australia. All State Rooms will be open, including the Ballroom and State Dining Room, with the dining table set as it would be for a formal dinner. Guides will be in attendance to answer questions as you move through the House."
( Government House Adelaide | Open House Adelaide )
What an opportunity to view one of Adelaide's oldest and most beautiful homes.
Government House was built in 1839 by architect
George Kingston for vice regal purposes and it's still used today for this very purpose.
The house is open to the public only a few times a year, so be sure to mark Sunday 5th May onto your calendar.
You will see:
- specially set up displays and memorabilia of historic significance.
- the State dining table set with silver and crystal for a formal dinner.
- magnificent South Australian paintings on loan from the
Art Gallery of South Australia .
Staff and Friends of the House will be on hand to guide you through the rooms.
Entry is free and the house will be open from 10am to 1pm.
There are full toilet facilities with disabled access.
