Last weekend, the grounds of Government House, Adelaide, was opened to the public. This was a special event for the public to view the newly installed statue of Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen unveiled the statue of herself during a video call that took place between the Monarch, the South Australian Governor, the Premier and Mr Robert Hannaford AM, the artist who designed the statue.

The life-size Statue depicts the Queen in her coat and hat carrying her trademark Launer handbag.

The Government House is located at the corner of North Terrace and King William Road and the grounds has beautiful lush green lawns.

The grounds, about 5.6 hectares in area, is home to many prominent trees such as pepper trees, palms, elms, magnolias and pines. There are two beautiful Washingtonia filifera palms, one on each side of the porch of the house. These were planted in the 1890s.

There is an Armillary Sphere sundial on the eastern side of the ground which was installed in 1991. This was a gift to the State from Her Excellency The Honourable Dame Roma Mitchell, AC, DBE, CVO.

A striking artwork titled "As One" stands near the entrance just after the main gate. The unique artwork was created with many shapes slotted together that reflects light. A plaque on the ground next to it explains what the artwork symbolises.

The garden is open to the public on Government House Open Days, which is held twice a year usually in March and November. So refer to the Government House website for details of open days.
