If, like me, you love food and dogs and hate leaving your fur-buddies at home when you go off on an adventure, this is for you. Or should that be this is for them and you are invited along? Either way, the team at Gourmet Pawprints have plenty of year round activities to share with your two and four legged friends.
Commencing shortly, it's time to pull on your wellies, coats, scarves and thick woolly socks for a pawfect Doggy Truffle Hunt Tour.
What exactly is a truffle?, I hear you ask. In short, it's the fruiting body of a fungus and they are usually found close to certain tree roots. And of course they are delicious and expensive, so it's good that a little goes a long way.
On this decadent tour you will learn all about the truffle and, of course, get to taste these little black gems and participate in a truffle hunt.
The tour starts in Port Melbourne with some essential sniff and greet time for the pooches. Handshakes are sufficient for the humans, or if you are feeling particularly European on the day, a quick peck on each cheek is acceptable. Once everyone has had a chance to have a run and a play on the beach, it's time to jump on board Bella, the dog-welcoming bus, and head off on the adventure. No need to bags the window seat - they belong to the dogs.
Upon arrival, you'll be welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine before exploring the mystery of the 'black nuggets'. You'll get a private guided tour and get to see some of the trained dogs do their stuff and sniff out the truffles.
Your own pooches will then get the chance to enjoy their very own truffle treasure hunt. Maybe your Fido has a wonder nose and you could be heading for a career change? One of the largest truffles found in Australia was back in 2010 in Tasmanian and it weighed in at 1.084 kilograms. Valued at about $1,500 per kg, you could just about give up your day job.
Before boarding Bella, you'll enjoy a private wine tasting and then it's off to lunch. With the wonderful world of truffles unlocked, it's time for a delicious 3 course truffle-inspired lunch at the Farmers Arms in Creswick, including a glass of wine.
Whilst you're enjoying lunch, your pooches will be cared for by a team of talented dog carers who will pamper, pat and play with them. They'll get personalised treats and a doggy gift bag so they don't feel they are missing out. They'll even get to watch a pup rated movie and munch on some pupcorn.
