Situated in Clovelly is a contemporary eatery that hugs the breathtaking Gordons Bay in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs. It's name, derived from the bay itself, is Gordon's Cafe. Located on the corner of Clovelly Road and Beach Street, visitors are welcomed by the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee, and a lunch menu that would rival its competition. The standout of this newly established venue is by far the salads.

I had the pleasure of visiting this venue after a rigorous Bondi to Bronte walk and was more than happy escaping to the inner suburbs of a calm residential neighbourhood, like Clovelly, to indulge in a nutritious tasty lunch. Greeted with a bright yellow coffee machine and wide wrap-around windows at the split level restaurant, it is hard to fault the interior of Gordon's. A mixture of black and white along with wood is the predominant choice of architecture and there is a certain modern yet vintage wholesome feel to the venue which is refreshing.

It is easy to see why many flock to Gordon's. The relaxed atmosphere and most importantly, the fresh seasonal food sourced from local purveyors, all at a reasonable price; are major draw-cards. Scanning the lunch menu my friends and I were committed to continue the healthy views of the day and opted to share the prawn salad and the lamb salad, whilst our friend went for the Super Food Salad with smoked salmon, spinach, avocado, cucumber, asparagus, snow-peas and
pine-nuts.

Luckily we did not have to wait long for the plates to grace our table from the kitchen. First off it is great to see value for money on a plate; secondly, this was one of the most flavoursome salads I had had in a very long time; and lastly there was enough lamb and prawns respectively so that we managed to have one in every mouthful of the visually-appealing constructed salad. As a diner, in any country, there is nothing worse than when you order a salad with a protein and the restaurant only provides you with either 4 bits of chicken, or beef (or whatever it may be) for the whole salad, not to mention not enough dressing. Luckily this was not the case at Gordon's. The restaurant excelled my expectations and has definitely made me appreciate how satisfying a salad can be, when done right.

Gordon's is open weekly Monday to Sunday and offers dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner Sun-Wed 6.30am–4pm and Thur-Sat 6.30am–9pm. On a plus the venue is fully licensed with a grand collection of Australian and Italian wines, as well as Mountain Goat craft beer on tap, Gordon's I have found is a great place to relax and rejuvenate after a long walk, or just before you duck out to the beach for a surf. 100% tried, tested and recommended cafe.
