This spacious playground has always been a fun place for local kids, with a huge flying fox a highlight in years gone by. Over time however, the flying fox closed down and the whole playground needed some TLC to restore it back to its former glory. In 2017, after consultation with the community, the playground received a spectacular makeover, with a brand new playground installed near the main BBQ area. Some of the original favourites still remain - the long slide received a paint-job and the tilting tower is still in action, so kid scan climb up to the top and walk along the wire bridge from one side to another.

On a sunny Saturday in December, my daughter and I went to check out the new upgrades and were met with dozens of happy kids running around, four children's birthday parties set up with balloons and piƱatas and a warm community atmosphere. The new upgrades were a hit!

Parking is readily available near the roundabout on the corner of Road, Gordon ACT 2906/@-35.4551591,149.0826307,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m13!1m7!3m6!1s0x6b17cb20bcf903b1:0x1d218e34503607b!2sScully St, Gordon ACT 2906!3b1!8m2!3d-35.4552729!4d149.0857537!3m4!1s0x6b17cb209034e965:0xa64b6b23dcd3aeb6!8m2!3d-35.4551635!4d149.0848194 Scully Street and McGilvray Close and then it is a short walk, past the ducks and water birds, to the original toddler area of the playground. This area has remained unchanged, however it has new soft-fall bark on the ground and a spinning toy, swings, small play equipment and a little dozer, to pick up some sand.

As you continue on, there are BBQ areas either side of the path and the brand new, shaded playground lies before you in a vision of blue. To the left is the toddler area with a small enclosed slide and climbing frame, mirrors and play equipment for little hands to manoeuvre. To the right is a higher climbing frame for older kids, with net ladders, rock climbing walls and areas to climb through and sway.

On the other side of this new playground there is a basketball court and a variety of new swings (including a net swing) and further behind are the original swings from years gone by, with chains that go up high so the kids can get an even bigger swing! Past the swings are new turning sticks that you stand on and spin around, a blue circular moving toy and a triangular climbing frame to go over the top of.

If that's not enough climbing, there is also a large climbing frame with handles to hang onto, as well as the original giant slide - which is not for the faint-hearted! Although it is a lot of fun, please be aware that the metal slide can get hot in the summer months. On our visit we found it to be fine on the way down, however the end of it was extremely hot.

Past the slide is the original leaning Point Hut tower, with a set of stairs that you can climb up to the top, as well as a large fireman's pole to slide back down at the end. From the middle level, kids can also walk out onto the wire bridge, if they are tall enough to hold onto the wire.

Another playground in the Tuggeranong area, Kambah Adventure Playground , has always been a favourite with local kids, however, this upgraded park in Gordon gives it a run for its money. It has new play equipment, creative climbing ideas, BBQ areas, shade and large grassy areas to run around. It is now a scenic and popular place for local families to visit for family BBQs, children birthday parties and games of cricket. Where the old flying fox was, is now a grassy ramp to run down and there is a central area for sports and games. Kids could easily spend the whole day doing loops of the playground - and then start all over again!
