Karma friendly food in Maroochydore
As a self confessed carnivore I never thought vegetarian food could appeal to me... until Gopal's Pure Vegetarian in Maroochydore (close to Cotton Tree) opened my eyes to an entire new world of food. I've been coming here casually for a couple of years now.
Don't jump straight to dessert - see what the main has to offer first
I ducked in one day recently and couldn't pass up the $13 lunch special of rice, curry, kofta, chutney, papadum and garden salad, along with dessert of halava (semolina fruit pudding) with a dollop of custard. For an extra $1 I even got a small glass of lemon, ginger and mint juice (normally $2); the other option was lassi, which I didn't realise at the time is a popular and traditional yogurt-based drink of the Indian subcontintent. I'll have to give it a shot next time.

This was a great feed. I felt completely satisfied afterwards. There was just enough of everything on my plate to make me feel like I scored a bargain. The juice was delicious as and it tasted very fresh.
As I sat there I noted just how busy it was for lunch. This day in particular was a weekday and I couldn't believe the constant stream of people coming in. Perhaps they weren't even expecting it this particular day, I overheard them say it would be a 10 minute wait as some kofta was cooked up.
I noted that the other options for lunch were a lasagna made with veggie casserole mince (soy-based) and dahl. They had a selection of savoury sides as well including samosa, spinach pie, and veggie croquette. Dessert is a great option as well with egg free chocolate cake, trifle, cheese cake, and fruit cake. I've been in the past and I have to say the apple crumble with custard takes the cake (pun intended).
Take away options are also available. It's great when I feel like fattening the meal out a bit more at home with some chicken or more vegetables. It's also a guilty pleasure of mine to pick up one of their desserts at the end of a long day at work to devour in front of the television.
