Seven years ago I wrote an article entitled Goolwa Op Shops You Need in Your Repertoire . It has been read by thousands of keen op-shoppers and has led me to realise just how important these treasure troves are to many of us. For some people, op-shopping is a thrifty necessity and for others, it's a fun hobby. Whatever your reason for visiting you will need to know how the op-shop landscape has changed in Goolwa since that previous article so I decided it was time for an update. I had fantastic fun visiting my favourites and here's a list of what I found.

The Anglican Church op shop on Cadell Street is open Tuesday until Saturday from 9.30am.

All needs are catered for here. Racks of clothes, to fit all shapes and sizes, line the walls alongside shelves full of shoes, stylish scarves hats and jaunty hats.

There are books, puzzles, toys and jewellery and a glass cabinet filled with special treasures.

There are always lots of knitting needles, buttons and other haberdashery items. It's a one-stop shop for handicraft basics.

You'll find The Alexandrina Wildlife Support Group Charity Barn / Op-Shop at 12 Corio Terrace and it's open Friday and Saturday. Like the Anglican Church op-shop, The Charity Barn also has lots of haberdashery available.

I find that each op-shop has its own specialities that add to its character. This one's special charm is enhanced by its collection of antiques and collectables.

Many of the items are sourced from the estates of departed individuals. Many are vintage and most have been well-loved.

Many items have significant monetary value while others require a bit of tender loving care (TLC) to rejuvenate their charm and appeal.

The Charity Barn raises funds for injured wildlife and chances are you'll see beneficiaries. During my last visit, a lizard was in residence and I've previously seen baby kangaroos, injured birds and tiny turtles.

Goolwa Bargain Barn has moved location several times and it is currently located at 15 Cadell Street, next to the very popular Mother Duck Cafe. It's closed Wednesdays but open every other day from 10.30am until 4pm. You'll find lots of clothing, some kitchen items and a selection of household ornaments here.

There are books galore at Goolwa Bargain Barn. You can choose a book purchase here and take it next door to begin reading with a coffee from Mother Duck.

The Wildlife Welfare Op Shop has recently located from Hays Street to 9 Gundagai, in the Industrial Area of Goolwa. It's open 10am until 4pm every single day.

There's an abundance of toys, puzzles, kitchenware and bric-a-brac here and you'll even find a few furniture items. Debit and credit cards are accepted to make things easier if you find more tempting purchases than you planned on buying.

Whalers Emporium is very close to Wildlife Welfare, on the corner of Gardiner Street and Gundagai Street, and it's open 9.30am-4.30pm Monday - Thursday and 9.30am-2pm Fridays. On Saturdays Whalers is open from 10am until 2pm and on Sundays it is closed.

Prices at Whalers are very, very reasonable so there's plenty of opportunity to stock up on household goods, clothes and other necessities.

Whalers also offer fresh produce, bread and other food items at no cost to those in need. Food is donated by local shops and also provided, on a regular basis, by Ozharvest.

Salvage and Save is not an op shop, as such, but is still a great option for second-hand goods. It is located at the Goolwa Dump, 1226 Port Elliot Rd. Here you'll find building materials and tools of all shapes and sizes in the outdoor yard. There is also outdoor furniture and sometimes children's play equipment.

Inside the large shed, you'll find salvaged furniture, fittings and fixtures for homes.

A room of 'antiques' can be found towards the back of the shed and it's generally filled with all manner of trash and treasure.

Salvage & Save is open Tuesday until Friday 10am-4pm and Saturdays 9am-3pm.

There you have it: an extensive list of thrift stores in the historic riverport town of Goolwa. Come along and see what each has to offer.
