GoodTime Burgers . It conjures up fun. Satisfaction. Not just a Whopper or Big Mac or a Feast, but a GoodTime.

So on finding out that GoodTime Burgers not only offer a good time, but a $5.00 Wednesday GoodTime burger special, then it was time for me to seek out a GoodTime Burger.

The legendary El Toro Hotel at Liverpool is the home of GoodTimes Burgers out west and I meet my mate John to test out their claim.

The El Toro has seen a part make-over with a coat of white paint so it's looking like a Spanish Villa with Andalucían pots and plants. The restaurant/bar looks stylish, a little modest perhaps, but nice and cosy.

John reminisces of the El Toro of the 1970's. Of great live rock 'n' roll bands, girls, fights and Prime Minister Gough Whitlam's victory speech on election night.

The menu at GoodTime is unsurprisingly burger focused but, there is also the ubiquitous schnitzel, a GoodTime rump, as well as the standard sides like buffalo wings, salads, chips and onion rings.

The $5.00 burger for this Wednesday is a Chilli Con Carne. Mmmm. It consists of 'animal sauce', lettuce, beef, cheese, chilli con carne and GTB whatever that is. The burger is only $5.00 if bought with a drink, so I get a $5.00 light 'beer sandwich' with it and skip the $3.00 side of chips.

This is a good move as the burger is a good size and the beef patty, well, it's thick! So thick, it's a bit pink in the middle. Ask for a well-done burger if you don't like your beef pattie pink.

Topped with a beef nugget, the 'animal sauce' (which tastes like a combination of a Big Mac and a Whopper mayo) is pretty darn tasty and the bun is fresh and light. The chilli con carne flavour is pretty subtle. The burger is more than enough for a satisfying meal along with the beer sandwich.

A game of pool on the newish looking pool table ($3.00) is a good way to finish up our GoodTime Burger experience.
