The Goods Wholefoods is a newly-opened salad bar and wholefoods café in No Name Lane, in the west of the city. It is located in the same block as Patissez and Harvest Coffee - two popular venues for the lunchtime crowd in the area. The Goods Wholefoods however, have a different take on their approach to food. The cafe may be small in size, but they offer a wide range of freshly-made salads to choose from, with new and creative combinations being made in the kitchen all throughout the day. Everything in their café is fresh, flavoursome and presented beautifully - making you want to try them all.

If you think this healthy and delicious approach to food sounds familiar, that is because this cafe is owned by the co-owner of Eighty Twenty café in Braddon, Klarisa Cengic. This new venture has already proven its popularity in the first couple of months, with people lining up out the door for their lunchtime salads and enjoying them with gusto.

As you walk into this light and inviting salad bar, there are humorous paintings lined up on the picture rail above the kitchen, which grab your attention while you wait. There is something oddly comforting about looking up to see the Dalai Lama in a hoody looking down on you with a smile!

The interior is small with a handful of tables, so it isn't a place to linger for too long when it's busy - which suits the lunchtime crowd as they are keen to eat and get back to work. There are also more tables to sit outside in the laneway, which would be a relaxing spot to sit when the rush dies down, quietly sipping a coffee as the world goes by.

Inside there is a glass display showing the several choices of creative salads on offer - all of which are vegetarian and gluten-free. Firstly you need decide on a size, with three takeaway boxes starting from $8 for small, $11 for medium and $14 for large. Alternatively, if you want to eat in, they serve your salad in a white bowl and fill it up to the size you choose.

A popular feature of this salad bar is that you can pick as many different types of salads in the one bowl as you like. I personally chose a roast vegetable and caramelised onion salad and a herbed potato salad in a small bowl ($8) and then added on top pieces of free-range chicken for an extra $3.50. If you don't want chicken, there is also dill baked salmon for the same price, or falafel, avocado, egg or hummus for an extra $1-$2. At the end, you then get to choose from several dressings which they will drizzle over the top - citrus vinaigrette, balsamic dijon vinaigrette, apple cider vinaigrette, green tahini or miso tahini.

The result? A salad bowl with a delicious hit of flavour to wake up the taste buds!

This salad bar and wholefoods café is open during the week between 6:30am and 4pm and also on Saturdays, between 7am and 1pm. This part of the city is much quieter on weekends (and easier to get a car park out the front!), so you can take your time and enjoy a healthy breakfast bowl, toast combination, superfood smoothie or coffee with a slower, weekend vibe. It is also located opposite Form Fitness gym, so you can combine a trip to the gym with a nutritious breakfast, to start the weekend off on the right note.

If you enjoy eating healthily for your overall fitness, dietary requirements or just because you love the taste - then put The Goods Wholefoods on your list of places to try around the city. It is the ideal way to boost your energy, naturally, to get you through the rest of the day. When food looks this good, it is a feast for the eyes as well as the tastebuds!
