Good Return believes that no one deserves a life of poverty. As an initiative of World Education Australia, an independent not-for-profit agency accredited by Australian Aid (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade), it provides microfinance loans to women in the Asia Pacific who live on less than $2 a day. In addition, Good Return offers training in financial literacy, livelihood skills, and renewable energy technologies through it partners on the ground in Nepal, Philippines, Indonesia, Cambodia, Fiji, Tonga and Australia.
As part of its fund raising efforts, the team at Good Return ran their first City2Surf alongside other charities like the Australian Cancer Research Foundation, beyondblue, The Shepherd Centre and many others. Every $100 raised helps to fund education for 1 woman and every $200 allows 1 women to be trained as a financial literacy trainer who in turn could help train another 60 women.
Good Return is hosting its 2nd annual fundraiser to continue fighting poverty throughout the Asia Pacific and supporting its in-country educational programs. Highlights include food and wine, a presentation of Good Return's work in responsible microfinance and skills development by Board member Gordon Cairns (Chair of David Jones and Origin Energy) and a silent auction with fantastic prizes. Some of the top prizes include a 9 day Peru vacation, a Mudgee weekend getaway with B&B stay and guided wine tour, A-Reserve winter season Opera Australia tickets, designer jewelry, homewares and many more. The event will be held in the historic Carriageworks built in the 1880s as the locomotive hub of Sydney.
