Hi I'm Jack, weekends are too short, so I love to make the most of the time we have. I also love cooking and occasionally write a blog of the food I love to cook, if you'd like to join me for dinner, click here dinnerwithjack.blogspot.com.au
I was quite excited today to have booked our tickets for the Good Food and Wine Show, which is on in Perth from July 13 - 15, the show has become an annual event for my wife and I, and we love it.
We both keenly follow each season, the reality TV cooking shows Master Chef and My Kitchen Rules, the fact so many of the celebrity chefs visit and perform at the show, as do past contestants, is a big draw card for us.
This year we are booked in to see Manu Fidel's show, I am quite excited to see him cook, not only is he a great chef and entertainer, but I have one of his recipe books and just love to prepare food from it. I am yet to find something of Manu's that I have not thoroughly enjoyed, so hopefully I will learn something new and maybe get an autograph.
2010 Master Class
Gary and George entering the stage
A highlight of the 2010 show for me was when I was fortunate to be invited up on stage to take part in a dinner party to eat the food cooked by Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris during their Master Class.
The food they prepare on stage really is as good as it looks, the tastes were wonderful and the experience of sitting at a table of eight strangers enjoying this beautiful food and wine was so memorable.
Gary and George Master Class
Show Restaurant Gary, George and Manu each had a stall at the show's restaurant that year, we visited these after the Master Class show, so Jo could also experience some of their food, and again, the food was amazing, particularly the Chocolate Caramel Tart by George, mmm, I can still remember the taste and textures of that tart as if it were yesterday. I have the recipe for it somewhere, but to date, have not had the courage to attempt it cooking it!
The restaurant for the 2011 show featured past contestants of Masterchef series 1 and 2, Poh Ling Yeow and Marian Grasby. We decided to try a little something from both of them and to share everything, this way we were able to try lots of dishes and we were not disappointed. The food from both kitchens was fantastic, but if it came down to a vote, then Marian would have won on the day by the smallest margin.
Poh Ling Yeow's Entrees
Malaysian Beef Stay with Fruit and Vegetable Skewers with Satay Sauce
Marion Grasby's Main Courses
Confit Duck with Star Anise Sauce and Mash
8 Hour Roast Lamb with Tomato and Herb Gravey
Marion Grasby's dessert
Kaffir Lime Panna Cotta with Strawberries and Lime Syrup
We actually got to meet Marian as we exited Gary and George's show; she was making her way to see her former judges, she was lovely and kindly posed for a photo with my wife.

Barilla Cooking Comp with Bella xx
At last year's show, Barilla had a stall set up where they were having cooking contests throughout the day. I went and enquired and a nice young lady filled out my application and fitted me into the schedule, she was so helpful, she told me I would be on her team and what time to be back at the store. My wife kept talking about it and the girl named Bella for the next hour or so - it was not until I returned for my cooking session that I finally realised that Bella was one of the winning sisters from My Kitchen Rules. I could not believe it, I was thrilled and she really is a lovely girl. I did not win the cook off, I am not used to cooking with store brought sauces and stocks.
Whilst we tend to be more interested in the food at the show, we also have a strong interest in the wines. The Riedel Wine Theatre sessions are always a highlight, so we will try to get to at least one session again this year, they are very interesting and informative sessions.

Good Food and Wine Show 2012 featuring
This year is featuring celebrity chefs such as George Calombaris, Manu Feildel, Ainsley Harriott and the amazing Adriano Zumbo.
Also on offer are master classes by Kurrajong Kitchen (cheese class), Tuckeroo Cooking Class (bush tucker), Mondo Butchers to name a few.
The Oxford Landing Restaurant will feature a menu put together by Maggie Beers, I personally cannot wait to dine from Maggie's menu. I so miss her and Simon on "The Cook and the Chef".
There are also opportunities for some lucky people to have a private dining session with George Calombaris, Manu Feildel or Adriano Zumbo.
With some 166 companies exhibiting, there is sure to be something for everyone at this year's Good Food and Wine Show.
Is it just my television set or are George and Gary getting bigger and bigger and I don't mean there celebrity status!!!
