Nick and Amy were made for each other. Both are young, bright and shiny and they complement each other. Having been together for five years, on their wedding anniversary, Amy disappears. Nick on the other hand is left among the upturned and broken furniture, with traces of blood on the premises and the prime suspect in her disappearance.

The media go into a frenzy and all eyes are on Nick. No one can be sure if he is the good guy or the bad guy. He is subjected to scrutiny and judgement every which way he goes and its not something he handles well. He does not always behave in a way expected of him. He can only be himself. This just gives everyone cause for speculation.

Amy tells her story through the pages of her diary. it tells the tale of a couple very much in love, however over the years, the pages slowly turn to fear of her husband and the suspicion that she may just disappear.

The rest of the film is about putting the pieces together in the investigation. Secrets will surface and evidence will slowly reveal itself. In my mind I saw this as a three part film. Nick's story which had me riveted to the screen as it unfolded; Amy's story which had some major revelations that I did not expect and still had me super keen; and the culmination that had me scratching my head. About what, you're going to have to watch the film to find out. To say anymore would be revealing too much. I have no doubt the ending will attract many different responses. I dare not even tell you what I thought of the end as it would just be a spoiler.

Rosamund Pike is flawless as Amy. She is a tour de force of acting! For me, Ben Affleck is Ben Affleck. He manages to carry his weight in the film with his slightly cheesy face that just does not lend itself easily to showing emotions. I give it a 7.5 out of 10.
