Mini-Golf, Pitch n Putt, Driving Range
I have recently discovered a love for all things golfing… except actual golf. I like Mini Golf, Pitch n' Putt and spending some time on the Driving Range. If like me, you are interested in getting a feel for the sport, minus the hours it takes to complete an actual game, then here are three activities for you to try.
Mini Golf We are blessed in Brissy to have an amazing mini-golf course at Victoria Park in Spring Hill. I've tried others in both New Zealand and on the Gold Coast but I will keep coming back to this homebred beauty.
My partner spent a lot of time fishing his ball out of that pond.
The course is perfect for young families wanting to get the kids out of the house as the course provides it challenges but as you can go at your own pace and choose the holes you want to complete the game can be totally tailored to your little one's needs.
It can also be thoroughly enjoyable for the older visitor as the venue is completely licensed and open until 10 or 11pm each night. Now, I'm not sure how you hold on to your drink whilst you swing a club, but I could image it makes the game that little bit more fun.
Ok, so I my ball also ended in the pond on more that one occasion.
The 18-hole course weaves around large awkwardly placed rocks and between crystal clear ponds that inevitably your ball will land in. If you are like my partner you may be lucky enough to have your ball land in every pond… and I mean EVERY pond. Pond and rock blocks aside, you can have a lot of fun giggling your way up and down the hills and over the green bridges.
This is a very affordable way to spend a couple hours with it only costing adults $17 to play 18 holes, with children under eighteen years of age getting in for $11. There is even a discount for families taking to the greens.
The lovely course to work your way through.
Pitch n' Putt I only recently discovered the enjoyable activity of Pitch n' Putt, and am upset that golfers have kept it a secret from us non-golfers for so long. It is basically golf but in a mini-scale. Not quite as mini as mini-golf but significantly smaller than normal golf.
Our masterful swings.
Each hole is a maximum of about 60metres in length and has a par of 3. This means that instead of taking 20 hits to sink your ball (or is that just me?) you should be able to complete each hole with very few swings. I took the three most important men in my life to the Pitch N' Putt course attached to the Oxley Golf Club and we all managed to sink the ball using an average of 2-6 hits.
Up and down our shortened course.
Now we choose only to do 9 holes (although you can do 18) and completed we the course in just over an hour. It was a wonderful hour spent with family in the sun and although I did not win, there will be a rematch later in the year so I can claim the title.
The nine holes and club hire cost us $10 each. That is $1.11 per hole, which is a pretty brilliant deal.
Driving Range In Brisbane we also have a lot of Driving Ranges to choose from. My favorite is in Oxley but then I am biased as it is so close to home. Instead of heading my way, you may prefer to wack a few balls at Spring Hill, Fitzgibbon or Mt Gravatt.
Sees those balls near his feet... yeah, he hit those.
A trip to the driving range is a good way to get your frustrations out, or to simply compete against whoever you have bought along with you. At our most recent trip I thoroughly enjoyed laughing at my partner's shots that landed less than 2 meters in front of our feet. He in turn enjoyed laughing at me when realizing he could easily hit the ball passed the 100-meter mark and I couldn't get my ball close to 75-metres. Our laughter was interrupted with supportive chants and calls and a race to finish our 50balls fastest.
105 balls cost us $15 and club hire was only $3 each, which makes this a cheap and fun day out.
The perfect place to perfect your swing.
If I had to undertake these activities in order I would perfect my swing at a Driving Range before heading to the Mini Golf or Pitch n' Putt Greens, so I could truly be at my best for a day of casual fun with friends.
