Having passed a huge banner attached to Wests Tigers leagues club in Ashfield advertising a Yum Cha restaurant, curiosity got the better of me and I thought I'd try it out. I've really become a huge lover of Yum Cha of late and when I see the opportunity to visit a Yum Cha restaurant, I'm happy to grab it with both hands.
My partner and I decided to try the restaurant relatively early on a Sunday morning. From previous experience visiting Yum Cha restaurants, you need to get there early to get a seat and avoid having to line up for to long. After signing into the leagues club, we found the restaurant on the second floor, and were greeted by a friendly host and immediately provided with Chinese tea and chilli.
It didn't take long after that to be offered a number of dishes. I started off with the beef noodles, which is one of my favourites. I figured I couldn't really go wrong and I was right, they were delicious.

I also ordered pork buns which were just as good. I find sometimes with pork buns, there is to much bun and not enough pork, but there was no such problem here.

Pork Buns
My partner ordered prawn dumplings and she seemed very happy with them. From memory, I remembered hearing her use the phase "these are beautiful" which tells me that we chose the right restaurant.

Moving onto dessert, we decided on both the mango pancakes and a bowl of jelly. Being the kid I am, I opted for the jelly. It was set correctly. Not watery like I have had at other places which stills surprises me. My partner had the mango pancakes. It is a must for her each time we visit a Yum Cha restaurant. She has turned into a bit of a mango pancake connoisseur and in this case, she gave the pancakes a big thumbs up.

From my initial experience at the Golden Times Chinese Restaurant I would be happy to go there again, the food was fantastic, the atmosphere cheerful, pricing reasonable and staff friendly. A winning combination.
