Who said there is no such thing as a free doughnut?
Who said there was no such thing as a free doughnut? I did and I was wrong. Golden Pastry offers a free cinnamon doughnut with every coffee unless sold out. So be early.

I have availed myself of the offer several times and even at midday, I was rewarded.

This is only a small shop but the range of goodies is huge.

The pie menu lists 14 varieties, with 3 pasties and 6 quiches, not to mention sausage rolls.

There is a whole cabinet devoted to doughnuts, and most of them are huge. I can recommend the jam doughnuts on the top shelf.

Enjoyment from a doughnut is enhanced by a quality cup of coffee. This is where Eda shines with her barista skills making your coffee from the nine varieties listed on the menu board.

Who doesn't love a tart? A tray of jam ones, lemon ones and my favourite neenish tarts looked so appetising, it needed restraint from ordering two of each. Another display boasted small and large custard tarts.

With the name of golden Bakery Bread Shop, you would expect bread to be available and there are many different varieties.

Large cakes are available with eight listed on the very busy menu board. Apple teacake would be my favourite, closely followed by apple strudel and banana cakes.

Moving along to the slice cabinet, the options were huge, vanilla slices, custard cream slices, banana/carrot slice, lemon slices and mud cake slices to name a few. The only one missing was heavenly slices but I guess they all are.

There was even a tray of ready to go containers of fresh fruit salad, complete with attached fork.

We are here.

Golden Pastry must be the most popular takeaway coffee and cake shop in Mooroolbark as I have been there at various times of the day and I have never been the only customer.
