Shopping is made easy here; as soon as you walk in, large signs hanging from the ceiling tell you where each category of merchandise is located. Don't let that stop you from browsing, as browsing is one of the pleasures of op shopping.


The Golden Opportunity Shop is the fundraiser for the Anglican Parish of Wandin, Seville & Mt. Evelyn. They support many local groups and organisations and some further afield for worthy causes.


It is a clean and brightly lit shop with wide aisles, despite its relatively small size. There is a tendency these days for op shops to look like normal shops, rather than the trash & treasure look of the past with some shops.


One of the first things you notice is a couple of well-dressed mannequins, seemingly there to greet you. They look friendly but don't say much.


The range of merchandise is normal op shop items, easily located by the overhead signs.


The head is well cared for with a range of caps and hats, some sitting on dummy heads.




Working our way down, I noticed a rack of very colourful scarves to decorate or to keep the neck warm.


While at the neck region a nice range of jewellery is displayed at the front counter.


Clothes are the mainstay of all op shops and their selection ranges from baby wear, children's, men's, through to women's.


This brings us to the feet. A large range of shoes are displayed. Manager, Glenda says that ladies shoes are a very popular item. Perhaps they just walk out the door.


The small ones aren't forgotten with lots of toys and a good range of clothing.




What brings a lot of people into op shops is the array of knic-knacs. These customers are often perusing their hobby of collecting things. I have heard of people's collecting passions from green glassware, walking sticks and pigs – yes, anything in the shape of a pig.




The Golden Opportunity Shop must be in the country as a sign on the door advises that if you have muddy boots, leave them outside. If you are an op shop junkie call into this one as every op shop has some things that others haven't. And you won't find friendlier staff.
