Located in a pocket next to the Mount Waverley Railway Station, the Golden Ocean BBQ Chinese Restaurant is more about appearance than actual substance.



The food itself is satisfactory and full of flavour, but the quality of the food isn't special. Also, the extensive menu provides much choice. However, what is very obvious are the exorbitant prices charged for the dining in experience. These prices are arguably overpriced for the quality of the food provided.

While the dining-in prices are considered to be too high for what is served, the take-away prices are much more reasonable. So if saving money is an issue, then take-away is the more obvious solution. These prices are much more reasonable for the quality of the food served.

The language barrier between staff and customers also mars the mood of the meal. The difficulty in communication is so great, that unless you order exactly what is on the menu, with absolutely no modifications, you'll end up being dissatisfied. Alternatively, despite ordering directly from the menu, the errors in delivery also occurs. This, combined with extremely long waits for the food, regardless of the number of other customers, creates dissatisfaction.

Finally, the ambiance of the restaurant is non-apparent. A long room, with peeling paint, concrete floor (which causes patrons to slip) and rickety round tables with white tablecloths. Finally, the sounds of raucous Chinese and loud crashes spilling out of the kitchen into the dining area can set one's teeth on edge.

Thus, while the concept of a conveniently located Chinese Restaurant in Mount Waverley is appealing, the reality is that one would be better suited to drive a bit further.
