Romance on the River
Today is five months exactly from my wedding day and my lovely husband-to-be wanted to celebrate by doing something special. After searching online for a couple hours he settled on a romantic early morning cruise with Golden Gondolas along the Brisbane River.
As morning people we happily hopped aboard at 8:30, for a delicious cold breakfast cruise. We were presented with a pile of fresh fruit, a selection of yummy yogurts and pastries as well as an assortment of cereals, teas and coffees. This suited us perfectly and we immediately got down to the business of romance by feeding each other juicy grapes and strawberries. If however you are after the hot breakfast the gondola departs at a more comfortable 9:30am.
Next we cracked open our bottle of champagne (thank goodness for BYO) and clinked our glasses to a perfect morning together. We snuggled together sipping our Moscato and whispering sweet words of love to one another as the boat drifted out into the river.
The small waves rocked our tiny boat making me sink back into the seat and relax further into my fiancÚs arms. The swaying made me so relaxed that I could have closed my eyes and fallen asleep but I didn't want to miss a single beautiful moment. So instead the two of us stared towards the water's edge and took turns discussing which of the amazing architectural wonders that lined the banks, we would purchase if we ever won the lotto.
The best moment of the cruise was when two swallows honed in on our little vessel and flew straight into our windows. The two birds dipped and ducked around the boat and both took turns fluttering in the windows. If I wasn't so obsessed with capturing them on film I would have probably been able to reach out and touch them. Now I'm not sure if the lovely Sean had incited them over with seeds, but whether it was a natural miracle or man-made one, it made me feel like a Disney Princess and forced a huge smile on my face.
These gorgeous swallows flew right up to the window!
After about 45minutes out little swaying gondola reached New Farm park, slowed and then turned around to head back to the bank. The return journey felt much quicker and we cuddles sipping out the last of our tea.
Golden Gonolas does a variety of other cruises at all times of the day to fit everyone schedules. We may already be engaged, but if you aren't, I could imagine that an Evening Dinner Cruise or the more affordable Cuddle Cruise would be a pretty perfect way to do it.
